They would definitely call it vain repitition if the Catholics were doing it.

I sure do notice it, in fact I posted a similar question earlier. It's kind of a trick they use. It's like when an atheist will say "prove there is a God" and the fundie will respond, "Prove there isn't," not understanding where the burden of proof lies. Another tricky one they try to use is when they attack Catholics for baptizing babies. Baptism is in the Bible; there's no question about that, but because the Bible doesn't SPECIFY "infants" they have the nerve to say it's not in the Bible! Convenient little loophole for them!

Technically, if you give bible authenticity the benefit of the doubt (ha), Jesus said "Pray like this," and recited a prayer. What gets lost among the reciters however is that it's not literally the words, it's what they mean.

Nope, because I genuinley mean it when I give thanks for each meal. It only becomes vain repitition when you don't mean it, and do it without thinking. But I agree, sometimes it is good to switch it up.

Do any of your friends say the exact same thing to you every time you were together, or talking over the phone? Then why would it be nice for God to have His friends saying the same things over and over again to him? (probably while thinking about other things- the human brain is amazing!)
You get my point?

I never cease to be amazed by the duplicity of those who deride us as "Fundies" We believe in the tenets of Christianity as set out in the Bible. What I fail to understand Is what it is you people expect from us? You bag us for being hypocrites when some of us behave contrary to what we preach but when we do live by what we say we are "fundies", objects of derision and scorn to be pitied and laughed at above all things. Make up your minds. Should we practice what we preach or should we say one thing and go and do the opposite? Or should we just continue to not give a rats about what the hell people like you think of us?
