When do you think it is okay to put a toddler in a toddler bed? My son falls asleep on his own, sometimes has a fit, but he sleeps all night. I'm not so afraid that he will get up and walk around (I'll invest in a gate) but my mom and fiance keep telling me no. For christmas I want to get him the Diego room in the box. If not i want to get a twin size with railings. My crib is on its last leg, and its just a pain to take the sides on and of from day to night. What do you think?>

I moved my daughter to a todder bed as soon as she was able to climb out of her crib. She was about 1 1/2 years old. I did get a gate for her door so she couldn't walk around the house during the night while we were asleep and maybe hurt herself.

I'm not sure why your mom and fiance tell you no. Maybe he's too young? You didn't say how old your son is, but did say he's a toddler. I say go for it, especially since your crib is in such bad shape.

The usual age for moving them to a toddler bed is between a year and a half and two years. They have the same size mattress as a crib, and are very low to the ground so if the child rolls out, they don't get hurt.

I skipped the toddler bed all together for my now 21 month old. I did put the bed rail up, but when I have the rail down, she throws a fit, but she doesn't really need it. It's more for her to feel safe (and to tell Elmo night night). My suggestion is to skip the toddler bed and go straight to the twin bed with Diego sheets, etc. You can probably find rails with Diego on them too. It'll save you ALOT of money in the long run too.

As for mom and fiance, why are they saying no?? Do they think he's too young for a "big kid" bed and trying to keep him little, or just not wanting to spend the extra money? (not trying to sound mean) I say go for it!!! Good luck!!!

well my son will also be 2 in January and he has been in a toddler bed for a few months now. I didn't think he was read, but he fell/climbed out of his crib, and he ped told me that he could get really hurt and it risks spiral fractures. So we invested in a toddler bed. I was so worried putting it together, got him a cars set up and just as I made the bed his grandma brought him in and he just crawled into bed and went to sleep! haha it was less of a fight then I thought it would be.
If you think he is ready I say go for it. But you have to commit, you can't put the bed up AND have a crib "just in case" you gotta stick to your guns. While the first night was easy we had a few rough times. His ped told me first tell him to go back to bed, then walk him back to bed yourself. It worked and he sleeps in his room in his big boy bed now!
Good luck!

Personally, I think toddler beds are a waste of money. It's still only the size of a crib mattress. My son is 24 months old, just turned, and we are moving him from crib to twin next week. Just because He is getting long and I don;t think a toddler bed is a necessary investment. I'd rather make one transition when it comes to beds instead of two...from toddler to twim eventually. Good luck!

Be sure that the room where he sleeps is baby-proof and put a gate on the door so he can't wander. I'm almost positive the Diego bed has rails; if not, you can get them at Toys R Us or Walmart. I still use the baby monitor so I can hear them if they get out of bed or start to open drawers or the closet.

Im her fiance , Hes going to be 2 in January the reason I say hes not ready is because we try to put him to sleep and tuck him in and everything @ around 9:30 and as soon as we walk away he gets up and grabs the crib and cries because he doesnt want to be alone and doesnt want to sleep. She has to stay in the room untill he falls asleep which is like 10:30 11. SO imagine putting him in a bed that he could just roll out of and not sleep. She has to be up @ 4:45 am to get ready for work & Im up at 6am to get myself ready and him ready. If it was up to him he would go to bed @ midnight.

My son was in a toddler bed at 15 months old. It was an easy trasition. He never fell out it, but I was still a worrier and put pilliows on the floore by him. You can really stick a child in a toddler bed anytime after about 14-15 months I think.

We were all in beds by 9-20 months.

Every kid gets up and walks around. You put gates up, or lock off the rooms that could harm him. You can get hook and eye latches for the outside of doors to keep rooms like the basement and bathrooms locked. And get a good tall gate for the hall to keep him out of the kitchen and the rest of the house.

Its not like he's going to sneak very far at all before you hear him anyway. Unless you sleep like the dead or something.

My daughter was 16 months when we put her in a toddler bed. Just make his room extra baby proof and get the gate. That way if he does get up he can play on his own before waking you up.

We put my son in his toddler bed at 16 months I think. He was able to climb out. So I figured it couldn't hurt. We Just gate him in his room and he's fine. He just yells for me when he's awake.
