Tried piercing her lip huh? I have my lip pierced, although I got it done by a professional. It's normal for it to swell. She's going to need some ice...There's no reason for her to keep it because if it's a pin it's too small she won't be able to get any other ring in it anyway, and by touching it..and moving it..she's begging for an infection. If she did this on her own...with an unsterilized needle it could get infected or worse-- HIV or hepititis. If her lip gets infected,(it'll be red, hurt, and have yellow stuff coming out of it..) make sure she leaves the piercing in until she goes to the doctor and gets rid of the infection,if she takes it out right away it could close up the hole..along with the infection..and leave an abscess.

Putting ice on it will bring down the swelling. Swelling is a common effect of any piercing, whether it's done personally or professionally. Tell her to make sure it's really clean to keep out infection. You can go to a piercing place to get an antimicrobial (I'd get the one for oral piercings so she can use it like a mouthwash to clean the inside, too). You can use mouthwash, but it'll burn like crazy (has alcohol in it) and will slow the healing a bit... but at least it'll keep the bacteria out.

Quickest way for it to go back to normal is take out whatever's holding the hole open and let it heal, while treating for possible infection.

well, you can try applying an ice pack to her lower lip and chin to numb the pain and bring down the swelling, but she could get a major infection from puncturing herself with a push pin, they aren't sterile you know. It could disfigure her face for life, so I would suggest she go to a doctor whether she wants to or not.

clean it out with peroxide at the very least......and if it's still bugging her, tell her folks - they should be able to get her to go....
