A True Prophet is annointed by God. Everything that a Prophet of God says happens; A magician relies on deception, Familiar Spirits and evil.Deuteronomy 13:1-12, 1st Samuel 28:6-20, Daniel 8:23

A prophet speaks the will/words of God. God performs miracles around the prophet in order to confirm the prophet's identity. Note: The prophet is not the source of the miracles.
A magician uses slight-of-hand "tricks" to entertain people. Note: The magician has no divine assistance.

That God works the miracle through the prophet but the magician uses magic arts to preform theirs. Also astrology many times to make their predictions as Nostradamus did.
I agree with the first answerer. There is a gift of prophecy today but there are no more prophets. They were only in the old testament.
A Christian here.

Well get a grip of yourself okay?
You have to know that in addition to quran we would be expecting people like you to say in anther way that Prophet are just a big magic crèches.
And we know what could come from a magic and what is comes from Allah.
In Islam now the prophet have the quran in hand that is a lone if you read it is a Miracle itself, and unlike the bible is just a word start with almighty and Jesus things over the years. and some unused documentations.

A prophet is guided with revelations from god.
magicains just make things up.
Alittle story from surat alaraf
Then after them We sent Moosa (Moses) with Our Signs to Firaun (pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they wrongfully rejected them. So see how was the end of the Mufsidoon (mischief-makers, corrupts, etc.).
And Moosa (Moses) said: "O Firaun (pharaoh)! I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
(Firaun (pharaoh)) said: "If you have come with a sign, show it forth, - if you are one of those who tell the truth."
The chiefs of the people of Firaun (pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer;
And so the sorcerers came to Firaun (pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors."
Firaun (pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him (Moosa (Moses)) before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know.

A prophet is a person that God uses to speak with other people and the CHurch. It's not a magical mystical person, it's just someone God chooses.

Magicians use sleight of hand to entertain people, prophets use slight of tongue to appeal to peoples emotions. Both are ordinary human beings.

The only true prophets are in the Bible. What they told was inspired from God.
However, Jesus is more then a Prophet, He IS God!
