I think most former atheists were people who felt hurt by the church and were actually "mad" at god and they thought that's what an atheist was so they called themselves an atheist when in reality they weren't an atheist.

I'd guess that former atheists were raised with an awareness of theism. From some of the quotes/answers I've seen here, former atheists, if they really were, tend to lack a good scientific background and demonstrate poor objective thought. The particular one that comes to mind, stated that "The Crucible of Evolution" converted him, and that book was nothing more than the standard, debunked creationist claims.

Every one that I have ever talked to, if you push them you will find that they never actually called themselves an atheist. They typically fall into the category where they never really thought about it. Even the famous ones that the religious love to point to, you won't find any documentation that they ever said it out loud.
I am quite willing to believe that someone is and has thought about it. All they have to do is say it at the time. I am sure that some exist, but a person that actively say they are an atheist that has changed their mind is rare.

I only know one former atheist, and he wasn't an anti-theist.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if something like that was true.

Anti-theism is actually a religion with beliefs and creeds (though un-official) If one didn't believe in God it would make no sence to rail against him.
Therefor it makes sense that a persons period of rebellion against a God they know exists but dont want to acknoledge would eventually end and they could retrn to God

very likely. There's one in here in particular named "former atheist" that I feel never stopped believing, he just got pissy when he prayed for a mercedes and didn't get it.
