The ACLU argues for "freedom of religion". The fact that they are pro-atheist in most cases is a very interesting topic.

Is this what you're looking for?

I see no problem with an atheist lobby. Religious groups have lobbies and I think the atheist viewpoint ought not be left out of legislation.

The A.C.L.U. is not an atheist lobby. Seriously people do you have to buy the anti-secular propaganda hook, line, and sinker? The A.C.L.U takes a variety of cases that defend the civil liberties of individuals, these aren't even always religious in nature. They have taken cases defending Christians' rights to practice their religion and freedom to express it as well. It only seems that to some they are against them because the majority religion in the U.S. is Christianity, thus they aren't the ones being discriminated against usually.

There is an atheist lobby group called the Secular Coalition. It is relatively new. I agree such a thing should not be necessary but unfortunately it is as there are many instances of violations of separation of church and state going on. If religious people are out there working to get their religious agendas pushed then it does become necessary.

I don't think there's an actual lobby for atheists, but there should be one. As the comedian Lewis Black pointed out, Nothing in the US gets accepted on even ground until there are lobbyists pushing for acceptance within the Gov't itself.

I don't think the ACLU leans towards Atheists/Atheism, but more towards acceptance of ALL groups. We often see Christianity at the forefront (usually the whiners - oops - conservative fundies, same difference) claiming freedom, but they only talk about freedom for themselves. They attack anything else claiming they are being persecuted. The ACLU fights more AGAINST that, than FOR anything else.

The ACLU isn't pro-atheist....they're even defended Jerry Falwell before...

The ACLU is pro civil liberties. It's just that more often it's a religious person that is obstructing someones civil liberties that they appear pro-atheist.

Agreed, there should NOT be a religious lobby as religion is a personal and unsubstantiated set of beliefs.

There should however be secular ones, to ensure that the above stays the hell out of science class, courts and government in general..

There are several groups. Most atheists groups have some kind of lobbying effort. Example: http://www.atheists.org/ http://ffrf.org/

there shouldn't be any religious lobby. Religions are lessened when they get mired into politics. This is why every Religious person who mixes their religious and political opinions is grotesquely deformed.

The A.C.L.U. is one of the most powerful lobbies in america, and while not every case, they are primarily arguing against christianity in favor of athieists.

Not sure if there should be.

Atheism might not be the best way to present our beliefs which are basically just common sense and rationality.
