I like to buy fresh bagels from the shop and only buy 1/2 dozen at a time. What is the best way to store them so they don't get too hard in a couple of days time before we eat them all?

The secrete is to cut them in half (the long way) first. Then but them in zip lock bags and freeze them. Squeeze out all the air in the bag. When ready, take out what you want. Since they are cut in half already you don't have to attempt to cut them when frozen and they defrost much faster. I do it all the time, it works perfectly.

You could get a good old-fashioned bread box like the one featured here: http://www.shopzilla.com/8N_-_cat_id--13000100__nwylf--__oid--565084459

A glass bell-jar is also an attractive way of displaying them and keeping them fresh. http://astore.amazon.com/540-20/search?node=15&keywords=bell%2Bfrom&page=1

everything is being destroyed from the air so a vacuum bag or a taper that holds air outside, away will protect your bagels!!!!!
