I don't know what all the benefits would be, but it's a human rights issue to me. Many Mexicans are or Native American ancestry and were driven off their land and south into Mexico. I think they still have some ancestral right to be on this land. They are poor people looking to get ahead. America is the wealthiest nation in the world and should allow many poor people to come here if they want. I do believe that they should screen for nuclear terrorists but, beyond that... I would prefer a world without borders -- especially with Mexico. Geez, it's just Mexico, it's not like the Taliban is at the border.

I know theres some BAD LAWS. So i will keep my answer away from the legal aspect.
I think illegal immigrants are a massive threat to America, simply because the numbers are so massive, they have enough in our country to LITERALLY TAKE OVER STATES. This is a valid concern.
%20 of MEXICO IS IN AMERICA! What kind of national pride does that show to allow such a massive chunk of another country to waltz on in and claim ground without taking the steps the rest of the world does!
People who cannot speak the general language of the country, who were not born here having a love and allegience to the nation, and who most likely know NOTHING about the laws here are not welcome.
Illegal aliens also are more likely to commit crimes & be taken advantage of.
Another point is that illegal aliens entering mexico from guatelama and other south american countries are SHOT. Why does mexico expect us to not do the same?

it is illegal. the USA should make efforts to stop it because we are a country of laws. these laws must be enforced.
the advocates are a deluded mass of idiots, and as such should be ignored.
edit: richie, I didn't drive them off their land.
did you? I doubt it.
I don't think there's anyone alive from when that happened.
we BOUGHT that land from Mexico. it is LEGALLY ours.
How is this a human rights issue at all?
the past is OVER.

It's against the law.
We have no idea who is coming into the country.
Many get government benefits they don't deserve.
Crime rates go up in places with a rapid growth of illegal immigrants
Just to name a few.

We subsidize poor people. Education costs $10,000 per child per year, health care is similar. That is why poor people want to come to countries that subsidize people. Our schools can only take so many people. Look at Los Angeles with its mega billion dollar construction projects, and students on 'year round' schools with emergency credentialed teachers and many programs for our children cut to fund ESL and intervention for the children of those who came illegally. Los Angeles's growth is 100% due to immigration.
When kids graduate from middle school, since the CHOICE of languages taught when my grandparents, my father and I were taught there have been cut, OUR children are the only ones in the room who are not bilingual. OUR children's opportunities are being taken from them and given to the children of those who didn't belong here to begin with, all the while WE are footing the bill for the schools.
The schools and our own children's limited opportunities are my biggest problem with illegal immigration, however, hospitals and emergency rooms across the country are closing in areas where illegal immigrants with untracable income are automatically 'demonstrated' poor enough to get health care free - to them. In fact the cost is spread amongst those who are trying to make ends meet - our own people. This is a big part of soaring health care costs and insurance costs, in part because our own people then 'gamble' and don't get insurance. Even the poor of this country who have records have 'debts' to hospitals to be paid off over time in most cases. Only those with untraceable income are 'forgiven' these costs routinely.
The benefits are to employers since the excess of labor has driven down wages. Meatpacking jobs used to start at $18 an hour and now start at about $8. Note that this is 25 years later, when the cost of living has risen enormously. That keeps costs down and profits high for business, but makes our workers unable to make enough money to pay their hospital bills (see above) and any taxes they do pay come nowhere near the cost of the education their children need, creating more subsidy by those who do pay for those who don't and can't.
Then the money made by illegal immigrant workers is in great part sent out of the country in remittances, so it doesn't even stay in our economy. This hurts our balance of trade and economy, overall. Outsourcing, the flip side of globalism (of which mass immigration is a part) is similar in losing money from our economy and destroying jobs Americans would otherwise work, but doesn't make us subsidize the poverty level wages of employers' work force and ruin our schools and taxpayer funded services for our own people threatening our children's global ability to compete.
The gross domestic product goes up, but it is a pyramid game, where the slice of pie for each worker is smaller and only the mass of new workers creates a larger pie. Those at the top who skim from 'gross profits' get disproportionate income, and to them all is good. However, the fed pointed out last year that wages are the smallest part of GDP since WWII, and before that was the Great Depression.

They claim that the illegals are just doing jobs that we Americans won't. You can't respond to them because they will not listen to logic and reason.

I believe the main point is that we need to know who is here in the US and who is not. For our security we need to know. The fact that they are here illegally means we have no knowledge or control over who is in our country.

ANYTHING ILLEGAL IS WRONG!
ISN'T THAT EASY TO UNDERSTAND?
IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, THEY WOULD OTHERWISE CALL IT LEGAL, DON'T YOU THINK?
