hi buying a new car well youre buying a car that wont be needing a mot for 3 years ,you would only need to get it serviced once you had got to say 9000 miles the car will not have any problems ,and will drive like a dream ,how do i know as we had bought a new terios diathatsui, cracking jeep ,and was fab til some daft female drvier (im a female i can call her that ! ) drove round a bend and hit us and the jeep became a right off ,so now we have a second hand car ,mileage is important but so is that it is checked over by a good mechanic ,as there could be under lying problems that you wont see or know about ,like the electrics ,blowing ,happened to us .......got that fixed and then had a battery problem ,got that sorted out ,now the car runs like a dream ,we got there just be careful and make sure youre going to a company that has a good reputation .......happy driving ..xx

I bought a 15 year old car with 200K miles once..... and it was the best used car I've ever had. So age/mileage isn't necessarily that important as long as it was well taken care of.
But definately lower mileage will raise the value of any car.

Mileage if under average is an add to any used car value book while year is a deduct but not as much as mileage by far. Would you buy a 1990 Camry with 35,000k or would you buy a 1992 Camry with 130,000 which is average if at same price?

if you want value for money, then go for a new car with high mileage. many companies now offer x years unlimited mileage warranty so as long as the car has had a full service history a well maintained high mileage car is great value.

Then why did you put new car in the question title?
It's the condition of the car and it's maintenance history that matters the most. An almost new car with almost nothing on the odometer but which has had maintenance neglected and a driver who thrashes it is going to be worse than a decades old car that's been to the moon and back that was looked after (i.e. by the book maintenance and careful driving).

i'd really be asking how safe is it? how embarrising is it to be seen in? how does the mileage average out at? (work on about 12000 miles a year) does it need major overhaul soon?
