Why are they so small compared to other cats in wild life?

many wild cats are about the same size as a house cat. the big cats actually came from the small cats. they got big because as time went on they were able to get a larger food source. many of them are dying out because the larger source is also dying. when extinction events happen the smaller animals tend to do better than large animals. cats are related to weasels and bears so it really has to do with the environment they grew up in. food source, weather, other predators, etc.

Because where they DID come from the wild, this was their size. A lot of native species wild cats in upper Africa, the desert areas east of there and the Middle East are all that size.

For the same reason that mice don't grow as big as elephants- they are different species!

Domestic cats are actually larger than several species of wild cat- think of Sand Cats.

Gee, maybe because they're completely different species?
