23 "From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. 24 Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. 25 As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

26 "Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. 27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28 Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29 When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem.

To whom it may concern: If you don't know the Gospel of John well enough, it might be good for you to read it so that you know what I am talking about.

Yes, I am certain of this.

The Bible itself shows that the first century Christians early on distributed among the many congregations the letters of the Apostles, and of Paul that were thought to be important.

Peter in fact makes a statement of approval of Paul's writings, letters, in which he says that in Paul's letters many difficult things are discussed that some distort to their own destruction.

As such we can understand that early on, the NT was being assembled and verified by the Apostles as inspired by God.

It is not unlikely that it was for this reason also, that John survived as long as he did being as gifted as he was. This way one of the very first and most beloved of Jesus could personally be involved in this NT compilation.

If you mean the Apostle John, it is probably more likely that he knew John personally. They were contemporaries after all. It is estimated that the Book of John and the Letters were written about 80 ad.

If you mean John the Baptist then Paul probably knew the accounts from the Gospil Writers, the Apostles themselves, and and his own legal training. Remember Paul was not an Apostle. He(as Saul) was a pharasee until his conversion on the road to Damascus, and was VERY active in persecuting christians. In fact he held the mob's cloaks at the Stoning of Stephen.

I have never heard of that. I do not have my chronological Bible with me, but I tell you what I have learned about these verses:

23: Paul's Christian proclamation begins by announcing that God has brought forth the messianic Deliverer from David's line in the person of Jesus. The promise Paul alludes to is in Isa 11:1-16, a messianic passage of special importance of for Judaism because it speaks of the Messiah's descent from David, of his righteous rule, of his victories, and the establishment of his kingdom.

24-25 The announcement of Jesus as the Messiah is put in the usual form of the apostolic proclamation, beginning with John the Baptist and his ministry ( cf. MK 1:2-8 ). John's preaching and baptism of repentance paved the way for public ministry of Jesus. John was the forerunner of the Messiah, as himself confessed ( cf Luke 3:15-18 )

26-31 As Paul comes to the heart of his sermon, he appeals respectfully and urgently to both Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles for a hearing. Then he presents a four-point Christian confession like that in 1 Co 15:3-5.
1. Jesus was crucified
2. they "laid him in a tomb"
3. "God raised Him from the dead"
4. "for many days he was seen by those had traveled with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem," who are "now His witnesses to our people." Also significant is the clear note of fulfillment explicitly sounded in v 27 and implied throughout the whole presentation.

Yes it is possible. The internal evidence to the Book of John suggests that it is independent of the the others and many leading scholars such as Daniel Wallace point to the possibilities of a date as early as the 40s for the book of John.

*slaps himself* yes Paul is speaking of the work of John the Baptist. However, he may have had access to the book of John.

That's very interesting. Either that, or John was written later, and quoted from Acts. There's just no way to tell.

But I thought according to most scholars, John wrote the book of John and Revelations while he was exiled to the island of Patmos?

It doesn't really matter which was written first though. I think John the Baptist really did say that.

What does Paul have to do with this? Luke wrote the Book of Acts.

(slaps forehead) Yes, of course. You are correct.

I'm pretty sure the writer is talking about John the baptist , not the apostle John.

Since he was in the wilderness all those days,,,,Didn't the Spirit, or even Christ teach him? And being taught at the feet of Gamaiel,,,think he knew the O.T.? that is the consideration.
