I have looked around webside but they all ask for an adoption fee and they dont really say what it is... does anybody know about how much it is?
And they also say something about home visits... can anyone explain how those work?
Would you suggest adopting?
Oh yeah... ive been to 1-800-find-a-pet.com (i think thats it)

There are many, many rescues that specialize in purebreeds. Your best bet of finding such a rescue is through Google. Look up "Yorkshire terrier rescue" along with your state or region. You should come up with a number of links in your general geographical area and then you can go from there.

Yorkies are very commonly found in rescues and the pound. They're a very popular breed, so a lot of backyard breeders and pet stores sell them to people who quickly get bored or tired of them and dump them at the pound. There are no guarantees that someone who pays $500 for a Yorkie pup isn't going to toss the dog. Loads of purebred dogs with papers and champion parents end up at the pound because people no longer want to bother with them. (Ask me - my GSD came from the pound. Not only is she purebred, she was being trained for explosives detection before being dropped from the program and adopted out for medical reasons. Her "adopter" dumped her because she was "too difficult"!)

Adoption is the best way to get a nice dog that will fit in with your lifestyle. Most rescues keep their dogs in foster homes, so they can tell you a lot about the dog's personality, what he likes, what he doesn't like, what behavior issues you have to watch out for. They can find you a dog that has the right temperament to do well in your home.

It's a lot easier to get the "right fit" in a dog from a rescue than to get it when adopting a dog at the shelter, or buying a dog from a breeder. The rescues generally know their animals pretty well.

Most reputable rescues require a home visit as well as references. References should be people like your landlord, vet, friends, who can tell them about your experience with dogs and such. A home visit is when someone comes out to check out where your new dog will be living. They will want to see whether you have other animals and how well cared for they are. They'll want to see how you keep them. They'll also want to make sure you're prepared to bring home a new dog and that your home is safe for the dog to come home to.

Adoption fees vary greatly by rescue. On average, anywhere between $100 and $400 is charged for a rescue dog. This adoption fee helps the rescue defray the costs of rescuing and fostering dogs until they are adopted - it pays for veterinary care, shelter pull fees, transport fees, food, etc. Most rescues rely entirely on volunteers and the adoption fees don't even start to cover all the money they put out to rescue dogs.

I would recommend adopting as yorkies are very popular and when a dog breed is popular there are usually a lot that become abandoned.
As for adoption fee it is usually around $150 and up and older ones sometimes have lower adoption fees.
Most rescues do a home visit where they come to your house and interview everyone in the home and make sure it's a good place and that you have the resources to take care of an animal.

It is highly doubtful that you are going to find a Yorkie PUPPY that has been abandoned for adoption. People pay so much money for purebred Yorkies that they don't normally go into the purchase as uneducated non-dog people. Usually those type people choose a much cheaper large breed puppy who then destroys their home and yard and then THOSE go up for adoption.

Yorkies are far too tiny to destroy much of anything and 2grand is far to much to just blow out of someones wallet on a whim. If you wait for one to come up in a shelter, you may be a little old lady before you get a chance at one. You would be able to find an ADULT yorkie at a shelter situation but most likely that type dog would have some kind of a drawing for it because it would likely have so many interested parties wanting to take it home.

Your best bet would be to start saving up if you don't have the money to buy one or to set your sites on an adult Yorkie and ask around to Yorkie breeders if they have any retired breeders that they would be willing to sell at a discount rate to a pet home.

Try Petfinder: http://www.petfinder.com/
Adoption fees vary. I've seen fees from $50-$250. At Petfinder you can contact the person/organization who is posting the pet and ask them about their adoption fee. A home visit is where someone from the rescue organization visits your home to determine whether it would be appropriate for the pet. During the application process, you often have to give references and information like whether your home has a fenced in yard, etc. The rescue organization just wants to make sure that the pet will be taken care of and won't end up back in a shelter.

It rather relies upon, various cases the do carry the two characteristics, yet whilst one if the dogs has a decrease tendency to bark you have a 50/50 danger basically reckoning on that dogs, regardless of in the event that they're mixes yet from the comparable clutter, that doesn't propose that each and each puppy gets the comparable characteristics. additionally in combination breeds in the event that they don't be attentive to which dogs they seem to be a mix of or regardless of in the event that they only be attentive to between the dogs, which would be volatile. the ideal thank you to verify is to do a tribulation adoption maximum places could enable that in the event that they're even remotely respectable

Um, save up your money, because they do NOT come cheap. Ever. Usually $500-$1500. Even places that usually have a really low fee will jack it up sky high because of the insane demand for these types of breeds.

My only other suggestion is to religiously check your local craigslist.com pet listings. You can occasionally get lucky and see something in the $300 range there.

A better bet would be to go to the AKC website and look for registered breeders of Yorkies on that website. That is how I found my Yorkie.
