It would send them backpedaling, spinning, redefining and denying like never before in a desperate attempt to salvage their even further discredited superstitious nonsense.

Extraterrestrial life does not go against anything that is said in the bible, therefore it would in no way affect Christianity. It is possible that God created life somewhere else in the universe, maybe even with the intent of us crossing paths. Just because God does not tell us straight out that there is other people in the universe does not mean that it isn't true. I wholly believe in the possibility of extraterrestrial life but I am not going to say that there is or that there isn't because neither has been proven.

Many of the hard-line arch-conservative and Creationist faiths would be thrown for a brief loop: Their version of Christianity holds that Earth is pretty much the most important planet in the universe and that man is God's best and favorite creation. The existence of alien intelligence would fly directly in the face of that.
They would then regroup and claim that the aliens were in fact "fallen angels" or otherwise "tricks" of their favorite bogeyman, and might even act against them.
Think it's unlikely? Drop by the Rapture Ready forums. It's seriously scary over there.

you do no longer might desire to locate any extraterrestrial beings. Christianity debunks itself. the undemanding ideals are ridiculous, and the only reason of their popularity is they have been compelled on human beings at swordpoint. After some generations of indoctrination, the descendants of the unique converts went out and used swords and hearth to in addition convert others for the period of a huge area (Europe). The popularity of Christian ideals grew to grow to be legally necessary in many places, and the penalty for non-concept became into now and lower back loss of life. it rather is how the lie common as Christianity became into imposed on mankind, with the effect that better than one thousand years of human skills and power became into diverted to a objective that became into frequently wasteful. Michelangelo might have painted to a diverse topic. Bach might have chanced on his musical inspirations someplace else. we could nevertheless have the paintings, and the paintings could have had a greater useful impression on the race, if Christianity had by no potential recognized.

The vatican would discover a new biblical book that would explain that God created life on other worlds as well.
And isn't the creation story the foundation of christianity? without it christs story makes no sense so wouldn't ALL christians believe in creation and not just some?

I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and I believe in a literal 6 day creation. I also see no reason that life, even sapient life, could not exist on other planets.
At least one non-human sapient, angels, exist, although they probably are not a biological life form. But why not other biological sapients? God is a very creative God (I mean, come on, just look at the variety of life on Earth alone), why would He limit His creation to just here?
As for what role alien life, specifically alien sapients, would play in God's universe, I have no idea. But, I know they would exist for God's glory, just like everything and everyone else.
Also, for an interesting take on this subject, try reading C.S. Lewis' book "Out of the Silent Planet" and its sequels. Good readin!

Maybe they would claim that there are other universes created by the Christian God? Or re-interpret scripture? Both?
If it was found that our Universe was an alien experiment then they could call it Satan?
*UDATE*
I love the answer that states that 'Atheists' (sic) would assume extraterrestrials to be 'New Age spiritualists'!
Furthermore, if they don't agree with *his* assumption about that, then they are also 'closed-minded'!
LOL!!!
"Always expect the unexpected"
'Morganie' (first answer) I read your link, thanks. It states that Earth was created before any other star in the universe!!!

Way out of what? Why does everyone assume aliens are going to shatter every religion on the face of the earth?
Let me ask you something:
How would you feel if aliens, with intelligences like they seem to have in the movies, were to come to earth, look at humanity and say all Atheists are fools because they don't believe?

It would mean the church would lose all credibility, the teaching of the bible claims that we are alone in the universe, that we were chosen for creation, that we are Gods children. If Aliens landed it would throqw that theory out of the window.
I am sure if Aliens landed 2moz, the christian church would find some scripture somewhere by a prophet saying it was goin' to happen, that it was Gods other children come to learn the way of the Lord through our bible!!! ha ha lol

They could always blame the Nephilim on extraterrestrial life, or people may find out that Aliens are what people think are angels/fallen angels.

Many Christians have already conceded that the Bible is not a science manual, it's a spiritual manual intended to inspire us and teach us morality.
That's the position of the Catholic Church anyway, and has been for quite some time. Ironic, I know, but it's true.
