sometimes people go through much suffering before developing faith and love in God- before then they don't really believe.. so what if hypothetically they were struck down before this change of heart was allowed to occur? would they be punished in the same way as if they had never been religious?

We are given every chance to repent, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus Christ to come into our heart.

Jesus Christ said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

I believe this life will not be the last chance to come to Christ. I don't think everyone on this earth will have the opportunity to accept Christ. So, they will have that opportunity after they die.
