...wouldn't Matt 21:21 be a bit of a contradiction?

("Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.")

...why would He have Moses lead the Jews out of Egypt?

...why would He oppose breakthroughs in stem cell research which give the potential to add renewed value to otherwise broken and destroyed lives?

...why would He condemn to hell those who think for themselves, and do not choose to rely on His help?

What I said was completely made up? Howso, exactly?

No Christian ever said that? I see it as justification/reasoning every day on Y!A. No, it sure isn't in the Bible, and I never said it was.
I'm pretty sure the Bible doesn't say anything about stem cells, abortions, or evolution, either.

My question addressed the realities of the religion versus the way its practitioners approach simple - but tall - hurdles, such as a substance abuser, an unmotivated individual, or someone who expects God to do everything for them (even though the Bible says they should).

I'm sorry your reading comprehension level prevents you from understanding the underlying question.

It was Benjamin Franklin, an atheist (or deist at worst), who said that in 1757.

It's actually a bit ironic how many Christians fall back on that reasoning.

hmmm that must be why he doesn't help children born with severe cerebral palsy.....They can't help themselves...so it makes sense that he would never help them.

The saying "God helps those who help themselves" is not in the bible, thus there is no contradiction.
The fact is that often we are not able to overcome and need God to bring the breakthrough. It is in relying on ourselves and our own limited knowledge and abilities that we make a mess of things.
The problem with stem cell research is that life is created only to be destroyed so that another life can be improved.
God does not delight in the death of the wicked. It is His desire that ALL are saved and have a place in His kingdom. It is our choice whether we go there or not. He created hell not for humans but for the devil and his angels who committed high treason. If we are not for God we are against him and thus in the camp of the enemy.
We have the choice every day between life and death in so many ways.

Regardless of whether these words are in any sacred texts, thinking concretely, like a stone, undermines the meaning/message of any sacred texts. As sacred texts address the spiritual nature of humanity, so should we seek to understand them with a spiritual eye and ear. To move mountains isn't literal. Given enough time any fool can literally move a mountain. Moving mountains of opposition, power, entrenched ideas, etc., is the real meaning. Literal interpretations trivialize and degrade the profound.

And why do people place stock in superstition and hearsay from times so far back that if you had a working cell phone you would have been stoned to death for being a minion of the devil or burned as a witch.

No where in the Bible does it say "God helps those who help themselves." This is actually a quote from the ancient Greek (pagan) writer Aesop, famous for his many fables with various morals.

How this came to be falsely ascribed to the Bible, I do not know. But God helps those who trust Him, and admit they are helpless.

You know I have ceberal Palsy, and I believe in God and the Lord Jesus Christ, If you dont believe in God then so be it, that is your biiz and your choice, Yet what you said is completely made up, no where in the bible does it say God helps those who help themselves, all that verse is saying is that If you have 100% faith you can do anything. All your doing is talking about something you dont understand, Your hole statement is worthless.

Who says.....'.If God helps those who helps themselves...?'

That's baloney. if one doesn't trust in the Lord he's doomed.

Stem cell - only adult stem cell research has progress to anything........you don't need to kill babies.

'That is because of that which your hands have sent on before.' and God is not at all unjust to His servants.
