A buddy of mine calls his girlfriend "Cookie". Fine. The problem is he uses that name when she's not even AROUND! We're both guys and we'll be hanging out and he'll say things like "I gotta go give my Cookie a call".

After years of this I finally told him it makes me uncomfortable and when he's talking to me he should use her real name and he should save "Cookie" for when they're together. He exploded and was really offended even though I brought it up politely.

Do you all agree with me or am I out of line? What can I do to stop hearing this obnoxious pet name all the time?!

I THINK IT SHOULD BE KEPT BETWEEN THEM. AFTER ALL THEY ARE NICKNAMES FOR -THEM- AND THEY DO NOT APPLY TO YOU. I THINK YOUR FRIEND OVEREACTED. YOU SHOULD CALL HIS GIRL COOKIE TO SEE HOW HE FEELS. LOL!!

Yes, you are wrong. There are so many men that will say, I have to give the little lady a call, or call the ole lady, or call the little bride.

Get over it, it is just a name and if you are that shallow that you can't stand to hear him dearingly call his wife by her pet name, well then you have the problem, not him.

I think you were out of line. What difference should it make to you what he calls her? Why are you uncomfortable with it? If I over-hear something it might make me laugh or roll my eyes, but I don't think pet names are obnoxious. Perhaps you're jealous. No really. I think you are just jealous you don't have a cookie of your own.

Nope, not all of the time. Some PDA are fine, holding hands, cuddling, hugging, holding, kissing, but when it comes to making out, groping and more, then it's time they get a room.

What is bad is when his friends start calling her by the pet name.

I agree with you. If he insists, then give your body parts pet nicknames, and use them to illustrate how annoying this habit is.

Now, if you'll excuse me... Sparky the Wonder Pony needs to empty the dam again.

Depends if its vulgar or overly mushy. And it all depends on the crowd you're playing on. Like you won't call her "cock glove in front of your parents" and "cookie" is a bit much for the guys. For me, in public i call my girlfriend "man" and "dude" on a regular basis (i address everyone like that though) and it blows people's minds.
