Where in the bible does it say you can only have sex for procreation? I've seen people answer "the bible says to only have sex for procreation" but list no reference. And I searched to see if someone had asked this question but there were no real answers.

I'm asking because I just saw 2 people answer a question with the whole no sex except procreation answer.

Whew!

Since I can't have children (short of a super-huge miracle, I'll never get pregnant), I'm ever-so glad that sex isn't just for procreation. If it was, I'd be... uh screwed? (That was a freaking funny pun!)

The Bible does not explicitly say this. Such a statement is found in the old versions of the Anglican book of Common Prayer - under the title of the Solemnization of Matrimony. I quote: 'First it was ordained for the procreation of children to be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord and to the praise of his holy Name.
Second it was ordained for a remedy against sin and to avoid fornication ...'

I am a pentecostal, evangelical, Bible beliving Christian, and I can assure you that absolutely no where in the Bible does it say you can only have sex for procreation.

Most people who believe this way stretch the "be fruitful and multiply" verse to try and say it means that the only sex acceptable to God is sex that allows one to "be fruitful and multiply". But this is a non-sequitor conclusion, and there is absolutely nothing in the Bible to even hint at this. By this logic, anytime we aren't "being fruitful and multiplying" must by sinful, and if we aren't constantly having procreative sex, we are disobeying God's commandments. Obviously, this is absurd.

I've seen other passages used to justify this. Each time either something is read into the passage, or the entire point of the passage is bypassed to put in a new point.

I don't know what bible you're reading, fortunately I don't have a copy of it!
Try the Torah. Sex is for love, companionship, pleasure and enrichment between a man and his spouse.
And THIS is yet another reason WHY I thank Gd in my prayers for creating me a Jew.
He loved us enough to make things between two people who love each other feel good.

tip- go read the book of Ruth in the original Hebrew. It's a VERY sexual love story. What a shame that your guys vilified what Gd created.

The whole book called the Song of Songs in the Old Testament.

It's practically all about marriage and sex.

I don't think the Bible says that, but I'd be interested to see if somone can quote a verse like that.
I think that good sex is very important for a mariage to succeed.

Jesus speaking:

Mat 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made [them] at the beginning made them male and female,

Mat 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Mat 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

It does not say that you can only have sex for procreation.

If anything, it offers several examples of people simly enjoying sex and exulting in the beauty of a physical relationship (see Song of Solomon for example).

However scripture is pretty clear that sex is supposed to be reserved for a marriage.

hmm i would like to know where it is too, but i imagine God didnt make it just for that, i mean between a husband and wife sex can be enjoyable, its when people mess up and have sex outside marriage like at the ages of 13 and 16, thats what upsets him.

It doesn't. It says the opposite, in some ways. There is nothing about baby-making in Song Of Solomon, and we ALL know what it's about...
