Just before I retired I had a moment of "modern madness" and for a short time retired my venerable Colt 1911 and bought a H&K USP .45 ACP. A fellow officer had recently purchased a Sig in .40 cal.

I found my .45 more accurate than his Sig. The H&K also proved more reliable as he had to send his back to the factory to fix a feeding problem.

The H&K is a fine tool. Unfortunately, for me, that is what it remained, a tool. Unlike my 1911, it had no personality. As a refined, reliable, and efficient tool the H&K can not be beat. But I like to personalize my guns. Not much you can do with plastic frames and blocky slides. I went back to my engraved, custom griped 1911.

a Glock! ;)

Ok, ok... Hmmm probably the HK. Both are fine guns, I can shoot either one very well. But I like the USP style decocker and the option to carry ****** and locked or DA/SA with decocker. If you are going to have a gun with a manual safety the 1911 style placement that HK uses is a great location. The HK Tactical is an awesome gun especially with a suppressor. Both have fairly expensive mags. HK is constantly researching and designing products to stay on the tactical edge. They have a few guns I am not that impressed with, but overall I like their attitude toward design. Plus their finish is more corrosion resistant than SIG Sauer.

The one that fits my hand the best, both are excellent weapons and will give a life-time of reliable service. I prefer Sigs, however I would trust a H&K if my life was on the line.

Having bought both, I would say it's really a toss up. You should try both and see what works for you. The Sig is basically a Browning BDA and the HK is just what I would call a modified BDA. There is more plastic in the HK and it may shoot a little better but I kept the Sig and sold the HK.

It all depends on whetehr you want "paper or plastic" (Aluminum or poilymer). I would pick a 226 or 220 over a USP but would pick a USP over a 229. The best Sig-Sauer guns are manufactured in Germany completely. I used to own a P225 and still wish I had it. It was the best compact 9mm ever.

(Dude, you STILL haven't decided on a pistol yet? Are you one of those guys with commitment issues? (kidding, ok?))

It's a close call. Both are excellent, probably the best there are.

The SIG Sauer line has a more utilitarian look, not particularly pretty but feel and quality are excellent.

HKs are sexier, more styled, also with excellent feel and quality.

Try spending some time with each and focus on feel and not looks. Let your hand make the decision.

(BTW, the Browning BDA was actually a SIG made P220 that was re-branded under license with FN Browning)

I personally like Sig. They fit my hand just right and feel REAL, H&K are good guns but they feel plasticky and cheap.( my opinion....)

Between the Sig and H&K what? They both makes dozens of models, makes, sizes, and calibers. If it were me, I would go and see which fit better. The better the fit, the better you'll shoot.

Go to a range and fire off both in different calibers so you know what u like. Go for what fits your hand well and what u can fire accurately. People swear by different guns just like different brands. Its good to hear what people like but overall its what fits u and your needs. Good Luck
