Every state's Highway Patrol / State Troopers have one main mission.... To maintain the safety of the Federal Highway System.

So, 99.9% of their time is stopping violators on the highways and investigating traffic crashes or any offense that happens on the highway system in their state.

Being a Trooper is all traffic tickets and crash reports and assisting stranded and / or broken down motorists..... Thats just about it. Occasional they get in on Narcotics Traffic Intervention on the Highway System.

In a few select states, the Troopers also handle police calls for service in unincorporated towns that have no police service or county Sheriff's Office.

And that is that.............. I once wanted to be a Trooper but after checking into the job I knew that I would get board with it for a life time. So I went to work in a major city and was involved in all aspects of police work.

I have had guys work for me over the years that were former Troopers that came to the agency I work for. They hated it after 4 or 5 years. Bored outta their skulls. Now they are putting bad guys in jail and see a chance for career development and are having a ball.

Don't get me wrong... I am not bashing the job.. It is just not for me. Midnight shift riding the highway looking for speeders or drunks gets old fast for me. Give me a rocking police radio or a great crime scene to work and I am right at home.

They sometimes have to keep traffic away from accident sites while somebody gets scraped off the pavement because they didn't wear a seat belt . Some of them also have some cute friendly dogs . I think they are a cut above the average cop - with more responsibility and most are less likely to be on power trips .

cruises around on the taxpayers dollar, pulls over said taxpayer and calls him a liar after said taxpayers tells him he knows why he was being pulled over(after being asked). Gives said taxpayer a ticket for something he didn't do,simply because he knows you can't contest the made up charge. Seriously why call somone a liar after they admit to doing something and give them a ticket for something they didn't do.
