baby's skin is so sensitive that it need extra and gentle care. treatment creams for eczema should be sought from a skin care expert, so bring your son to a dermatologist. treating eczema with creams bought from over-the-counter may make matters worse. seek the advice and recommendations of dermatologist.
to avoid eczema flare ups there are lot of things to consider like:
* keeping fingernails trimmed
* using an all natural moisturizer throughout the day
* hydrating the skin by drinking loads of water
* avoiding foods that are processed and that have preservatives
* use natural fabrics that are soft
* avoid tight, rough and scratchy clothes
* do not sweat it, avoid activities that makes you sweat
* avoid temperatures that are extremely hot and cold

I have also heard of mixing aquaphor with cortizone ointment 50/50. The pediatrician or pharmacist can help.
Finding the source is the best as it may be an allergy. I have always used the aveeno soap or cetaphil, and no dyes or perfumes in the clothes deteregent or softeners. Also high acid foods (oranges, tomatoes) seem to aggravate it.

florasone works great and you can get it at a health food store plus no yucky steroids other than that an unscented lotion or cream lotion after baths and only use soap when the baby is actually dirty or 2 times a week because it will dry the skin and make it worse you want to use the lotion and/or florasone right after the bath for best results talk to your pediatrician as well for more advice

My sister's two girls have had eczema off and on and she swears by hydrocortisone cream and Aquaphor. I do know that there are some steroidal creams (Desonate by Skinmedica) available for children (as young as 3 months). But, I would try other options first and check with a dermatologist for their expertise.

Hi my daughter had exzema early on till about 2. We tried all kinds of creams and things the dr prescribed or recommended. Basically they helped to relieve it some or make it look like it was going away but didnt. She basically just grew out of it.
It did help when she was crawling around or playing around to put pants on her (she had it on her cheeks and legs)...that way she wasnt rubbing them on the floor or getting the areas dirty..hope that helps!

Defiantly switch to unscented soaps and detergents. Hydrocortisone is great. Aquaphore works wonders as well, I suggest mixing in a drop of tea tree oil with the lotion. I know that helped me when I was a kiddo, I had it pretty bad. Good Luck!

Try the Aveeno brand baby washes/shampoos, unscented. My son's seemed to clear up soon after I switched to Aveeno. Not sure if it just so happened that he grew out of it at the same time, though.

Wash him in only oatmeal baths and use a mild detergent when washing his clothes. I washed my sons clothes in Amway.
