yes they do. it was very common in vietnam... but led to a lot of friendly fire because the ak-47 had a very distinct sound so fellow soldiers would shoot at the direction of their sound.

If your weapon jams, is damaged or runs out of ammo... And the enemy you just shot has a working weapon with ammo, what would you do? Stand there and think "gee wiz, what do I do now", or pick up the enemies weapon and put it to use? You use what's available. You make do. Adapt and overcome. Does it happen in prolonged shoot-outs? Rarely. You usually don't hear about it nowadays. But it has and can happen. Any trooper with half a brain would use what is available to stay in the fight and survive. That is why good leaders make sure that those under them are trained on any weapons that might be available to the enemy. You need to be able to know how they function and to use them/disable them and make them safe if needed (clear and unload them).

Yes, many countries use the weapons of their enemy. Sometimes it is done because of running out of ammo for their own weapons, sometimes (as with the Cambodians during the Second Indochina War) the troops use a mixture of weapons. This is what the NLF ( the Viet Cong) did, taking a lot of the weapons from the enemy and using them against the ARVN and US military along with using the Chinese and Soviet supplied AK-47s.
A number of troops, often on special operations or clandestine operations use the weapons of the enemy so they do not betray the origin of the troops fighting.

Ourselves. Vietnamese, Koreans & Chinese, Germans. After it is all said and done, we have to deal with our own Conscious. Whether we have killed the enemy or innocent people, it will always remain in our mind. When i say (innocent people) i mean people that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Im not speaking of intentionally. During the Korean Conflict the Chinese were helping the North Koreans. Many of them didnt have weapons, but they would pick up the deceased weapons and continue advancing towards our troops.

Yes its common for two reasons :
1- When Ammo were low
2- To disorient the enemy ( the enemy knew the sound of M4 ) so when we use AK-47 they think we are insurgents and fall in our ambush .

Yeah, Navy seals are known to use AK-47's sometimes, probably because they work in the water and/or harsh environments. U.S. also uses Russian equipment captured from wars for Navy and Air Force training, such as the Mi-24 helicopter and MiGs. Most of the time U.S. troops use their own, because they rarely get into that situation.

Some troopers are actually taught Filipino (woot) martial arts, not becuase it's the best but because of the practicallity of it, it is built around protecting ones self against knives and using knive as well as improvised blunt weapons..... I guess it would be completely logical to improvise by using weapons of the enemy and off the ground....
