I know there is monthly membership, and you can also buy a one day pass, but I see teenagers waltz in there and use the gym. Is it free?

Its only free to members who buy the membership. The kids you see waltzing in there have probably belonged so long that the front desk knows them by sight so they don't have to show their membership cards.

The gyms in the YMCA and the YWCA are not free to work out in. There is a fee for that, but it is not much. You can look online for your local Y and there should be information on how to become a member and the cost.

It's not free but there's a sliding scale, based on your income. I only pay $20/month.
