Someone abandoned two kittens on my porch Friday night, and my German shepherd,Lulu, wants to mother them.Lulu was spayed at 5 months,so I don't know why she is so maternal, but I think it's cute, don't you?

I don't know if I'll keep them.I already have 13 cats! I'm going to try and place them, but there are SO many kittenss right now.If I can't,then they'll be become part of the family, and of course they will be spayed and neutered ( one boy and one girl)

Also,Lulu has been around cats since she was a baby, and we've rescued 6 in the 6 years that we've had her,so she's very accustomed to kitties!

The kittens are about 4-5 weks,so they are eating kitten food and drinking kitten milk replacer from a saucer, but they do try to nurse from her,it's so funny.Lulu won't let the other dogs in the house near them, she's very protective of them! All of my cats are crazy about that dog!

so cute and sweet story. I had a toy poodle yrs ago that adopted four kittens. They nursed her and she got milk ad everything altho she had never had pups. The kitties look very young. Are they eating cat food yet? You know even tho the shep is spayed, if the kitties burse her, her milk might come down.

No doubt, it is cute. And it is also instinct to GSD to protect and to herd and she was likely just waiting for a task like this to come along. That's where they got the name 'shepherd' from. That was their original job.

Of course there are some shepherds that will kill cats and other small animals but she obviously realized that you saw these defensless animals as in need of help and she worked them right into her schedule, for you!

it;s soo soo cute! what a sweet dog u have
my cocker spaniel prince found a few weeks old kitten when he was about 3 years old. my good old boy took care of it the best he could. be careful where he would like down and licked her to help her pass motion.
such a sweet sight to see. the kitten was named Tuesday but unfortunately didn't make it to her next Tuesday.
he was absolutely devastated. he then mothered a toy.
some things we just don't or can't understand but it's cute to see

When I found my 2 kittens @first my chihuahua wanted nothing to do with them. Then one day the male kitten was nursing on her. I just sold him 2 days ago I was sad.I really like when dogs & cats get along Thanks for the nice pic!

Lovely! It's not uncommon for female dogs to mother kittens and other creatures. My fem. Boxer used to wash and nurse our next door neighbors kittens. She would lick them and guard them. It was adorable. Your dog, she is a natural.

Yes, indeed it is. But I marvel just how you manage all those pets in and around your house. Here I am longing for a Boxer and my family members turned nasty on me. Lucky girl !
