Sometimes I add a spoon of horseradish. I always warm the milk in the microwave, when I add it to the potatoes, along with a generous pat of butter.

My favorite secret ingredients
are minced Chile pepper with minced golden raisins
and a pinch of allspice.
My Grandmother always served these
little potato tea cakes to the ladies
she played canasta with
on Tuesday afternoons.
She said these were her special secrets
and not to ever tell Mrs. Calhoun the recipe.
And I never did.

When I make mine I add chopped mushrooms and corn kernels. Just layers them with the potatoes before adding the cream. Very yummy. I have even tried it with a small tub of marinated capsicums, mushrooms, semi dried tomatoes and eggplant. I bought a small tus at the deli. Adding all those things makes a great meal with salad.
