Actually, not exactly.

Greed is the reason for war. Greed for power, greed for fame, greed for money, greed for popularity, greed for continuing in one's own comfort zone and cooshy lifestyle, or greed for order after a time of chaos (such would be why the German people bought the Nazi's crap). All wars are started either by greed, or in defensive or preventative response to someone else's greed, making greed the ultimate cause (even if it isn't the motivation of the one actually declaring war).

As far as being a cause of war, politics is just like religion, cultural differences, racial differences- a mere excuse for war, not a cause. In absence of these excuses, other excuses would be found or invented.

I do agree that in some cases, politics using the name of God is certainly what causes some wars. But there are still some religions that have what they call holy wars. And there are some country's that fight because of cultural differences. But even in a religious or cultural wars, it is still the politics of the people involved that cause the war.

Money is the root of all sorts of evils (duh)!

Culture and politics are the products of religious convictions and notions, or, conversely, the denial of religion (Communism, as an example). Religion can be defined as the implementation or characterization of a spiritual teaching. It needs to be distinguished from the teacher. Jesus Christ, for example, would never have led the Crusades, nor would He have instigated the Inquisition or Salem witch trials. I do not believe Muhammad would ever have flown passenger planes into skyscrapers. For any leader or culture to blame the key figure in their religion for war is no more than a diversion. People are evil, and they seek justification of evil deeds in religions.

Darlin' many, many wars HAVE been for religion. Especially during the times of the Crusades. Most wars are for "power & prestiege"
which equals MONEY & LAND MASS.......AS IS THE WAR IN IRAQ
EXCEPT G.W. DON'T WANT THE LAND JUST ACCESS TO THEIR
WEALTH = OIL. Well not to mention Saadam tried to kill his Dad. lol
But to give you a couple wars that were totally political, The Korean Conflict, and the Viet Nam War those were almost totally POLITICAL WWII was (European Campaign) Germany wanted "POWER & PRESTIEGE" which equaled land mass. Against the Japanese they needed the natural resourses. (which FDR had an embargo on them) so they decided just to take Manchuria went on into China and then South for the "OIL" which was the main reason for that one!!....lol You have a wonderful one also!!

Politics may be the reason leaders start wars, but religion and other cultural differences are extremely significant in convincing ordinary people to kill and die for their leaders' political goals.

Wars have always been about politics, greed, land, power and politicians have merely used religion as a tool to push their agendas.

Every war would have occured if religion never existed. The politicians just would have used a different tool to gain support. Nationalism perhaps?

Allure45connie says it the best so far.
She deserves best answer.

I can only repeat that as far back as you go into history, or culture, religion has always been political, and it has always been about making war.

I think war is an economic struggle for land and resources. Political, cultural and religious differences are just used to justify why one side deserves the land and resources more than the other side.

Religion IS politics . Constantine [and St Paul] invented the Catholic religion out of political need . The Old Testament was the political background for the Jews . Catholics , Jews , Muslims , Hindus , Atheists ... all have their own countries . The conservative Christian vote is a powerful block in the US . The Islamic vote is powerful in Kuwait .
The Islamic religion strives to convert all the world to the political laws of the Qou'ran .( Except for the Jews who they wan't to exterminate .)
