i was warned by someone that keeping the candle lit at night in my room will negatively affect my health. is it pure BS or there is really a link between the two?

It's not the scent that's bad for your health (unless you're allergic to it). Toxins such as soot/carcinogens, co2 and lead can be released into the air from the fire, wax and sometimes from elements in the wick.

Use beeswax and soy candles instead of paraffin. Look for lead-free wicks and avoid long periods of candle burning in areas that aren't well ventilated.

Probably. Be sure to read the ingredients on the label. Most scented candles contain at least 56 toxic chemicals. A lit candle burning for 2 hours in your living room will do much more damage to you than if you had a packed living room of nonstop smokers.

depends on the kind of candle..
most candles are made from Petrolium Wax.. and produce Soot.. which is not only bad for you.. it slowly wrecks your art work, coats your windows and walls, lungs.... and on the whole is environmentally bad...

some candles are made from BEES WAX or SOY WAX... both are safer for you to breath in.. (no soot) the Bees wax ones being the BEST alternitive for the planets sake..

also ALL candles use oxygen.. which over all is never good...

Yes.Candles emit carbon dioxide. If it is in closed room it is more harmful to health.Infact, candles have no special benefit and its religious association is blind belief. In olden days when there was no electric power/lamps,people had to rely on candles or oil lamps. There is no need to contnue such practices now.

If the inner core of the wicks are made of lead continuous use could cause harm over a period of time. Lead can be a very toxic metal.
