Michael,
You are not alone. For the past year I have been suffering with almost the same exact symptoms as you. I want answers. I am afraid because I am so young. I have some ideas though, I have done some research on what is happening and am thinking there may be some possibilities of, here are some of my ideas:
Mold - it can grow in sinus cavities of your head and other places. It dose affect memory.
Parasites - One that has not been discovered.
My short term is getting so bad that I will have to sit here for a minute to think of the other ideas that I have been researching and just thinking of but forgot right now.
I am afraid too.
I am a healthy person. I workout, take care of my body, and have a good diet. I am also very educated. I have noticed that it is getting worse. I will loose my words while speaking and can't remember or recall what I was talking about. I have called the bank about checks that I have written, in my own handwriting, and did not remember at all, writing them.
My husband is really concerned for me. We talk about it more often now. I have been going to the doc but nothing has been found yet. I think you should start to research it too. I also have had several Sci majors, approach this from that sort of veiw. Take it apart, research it, find out what is going on. Share your ideas with me, it will speed up the process to an answer.
Anyone have any other ideas........
I am not on meds and I rarely drink, don't smoke never had, family history is pretty healthy. My memory has gotten to the point that I forget my childs name while looking at her and I have to sit and think for a good amount of time. It is right on the tip of my tongue but I am not able to recall it. Other times I will be talking about an earing, for example and mid sentence I cannot recall the word for what I am speaking of. I will have to describe it... "the shinny thing that goes here, round" It is really embarr ing j.
I know what I am trying to say but I cant say it. Also I completely forget stories that my husband has told me about himself or events coming up weekly in my childs school. It has gotten so bad that emotionally I have felt helpless and out of control, yet I know what is going on. I am considered to be a well liked cool person but have shrunk from friends and social atmospheres because of it. Lately I have started to share with people because I realized that I have to reach out. I won't survive if I don't.....

I'm not sure what it could be, but it sounds serious enough that I would go to the doctor if I were you. This is definitely something that you want to get checked out to make sure that it can't develop into something worse. I understand your fear about being diagnosed, but only after diagnosis can something be done to help it. Good luck and take care.

Well you didn't indicate your age.
You haven't said what you have been working with.
I am probably much younger then you, yet have had Memory problems for years. I was haveing side effects on some medications I was on, but the doctors decided to give me medications for those as if they were a mental illness and kept claiming there were no side effects with any meds I was on and that I would never have any,.. if anyone asked they said I had none. At some point I woke up one day and all my memory from one point in a store until the time I woke up was erased. I didn't know what my name was and couldn't piece together sentences to speak them or understand them when they were spoken to me. I quit meds years later after I was so out of it I was trying to take another pill of a new med when I was struggleing to breath and could not swallow even water. I told my doctor and he only said " That's a shame, I would like you to containue takeing meds as prescribed". Luckily I had friends online that were Nurses,.. one barked commands on me and such,.. they told me I was haveing an Anaphlactic reaction.
Anyways,.. ever since I woke up with no memory, my mind has never fully recovered.
So you want to check your Age, what you've been working with lately (some times when working with things in Chemistry I would get ill or accidently contaimanate things,.. it doesn't help when you are haveing a reaction or are hungry,.. you make more mistakes), and look into any Meds you are on,.. especially if they conflict. My mom looked up things she was on that I had been on and that lead to her looking up a couple other things,.. I had obvious side effects upon side effects stacked up. Also keep in mind Over the Counter and Medicinal things can conflict with each other and medications. St. John's Wort is one of the biggest problems for this, it cancels out most Prescription Meds, some over the Counter, Vitamins, and some Contraseptives (includeing birth control), it can create weird reactions and combonations some how of these things when they are together ( more then one thing + St. John's Wort).
P.S. Just to clarify,... there was actually a connection to adjustments to meds and my mind going. Also, there are many things that could be wrong,.. things as simple as stress when piled on can cause problems. If you have something Serious it's better to catch it early as now they do have things that can slightly reverse and even stop some problems if caught in the first 2/3 and if you go through treatment. You may be disgnoised with some form of Dimentia. These days people assoiate it with Altihmerz (if you get a Doctor like that GET AWAY FROM THEM,.. they are out of touch and someone like that basically trapped my Grandfather and let him die). The truth is even children can get Dimentia-- stress, dispression, learning disablities,.. many things can cause Dimentia. And Dimentia is NORMALLY not permenate. It's a matter of elimenateing or relieveing the problem that is causeing it. Also, you may have a health problem you are unaware of like an infection or blockage some where in your body, even this has caused Dimentia before.. and that is pretty easy to get rid of.
Added: DK, I have the same kind of problems. :/ Since I am online all day, my latest most common thing are: to forget what I am listing when talking to someone and opening a new Browser window, but I forget what I was going to type into the address bar in that tiny ammount of time between clicking the button for a new Browser Window and one popping up. On rare occasion I do it repeatitively and wind up with 3 windows. I know that's not the only time things loop because there are times every couple of months when I will repeat something to someone over and over and over again. I don't remember doing it but ahead of time I had it set in my mind I wanted to tell them something.
Just another thought, have you guys checked for mold and gas leaks in your home? I have lived three places where gas leaks were common. I even know the smell from my Grandparent's house. I assosiate it with Chestnuts because once when I asked about it someone said someone was cooking chestnuts or just had. But some gas does have an order. I think my whole family was exposed to something since they all had similar Dimentia within so many years between each other, but the medical people I could remember to bring that up to deny anything enviornmental could be to blame and doesn't believe me. This isn't true but when medical people say stuff I put things out of my head because they have more authority then me. >.<
I have Learning Disablities,.. so those make things worse. But since I woke up with that sortta amnesia my mind/brain hasn't been at all the same. I was a multi-tasker. Before my mind went I could help 8-12 people at the exact same time in many places and many ways. I could keep things clearly seperated, even with my Learning Disablities, not confuseing people, activities, and where I did/put things.

Go to the doctor. The reality won't be as bad as your fears.
