The people here who talk about how fat they are and ask for advice...and then give their height and weight...and they are OBVIOUSLY not close to being overweight. Are they...

A. Honestly too naive to know or unsure how to use the internet search engine to look up BMI or height weight charts.

B. Trying to get people to say things like "oh you're so thin!" or "oh I wish I weighed that much!" and basically get attention.

C. Pretending to have an illness which I won't even name.

D. Actually have that illness? = (

Or what?

I'm a 19 year old girl and I know there's a lot of 12-14 year olds on this site who ask questions like that. But I don't remember it being that bad when I was that age!

Is society really that messed up?

Oh, and please don't hate on me for what I just said. There's nothing wrong with girls trying to be health conscious. But there is something wrong with wanting attention for being thin and thinking you're fat. That's not cool.

What a great question! Remind me to give you a star.
I believe the answer is , unfortunately, D. Hopefully it's mostly only the start of anorexia. These 14-year old girls are called "fat" by the "skinny" girls, and really are starting to think they're fat. Yes, society IS really that messed up. Thanks to Nicole, Paris, Mary-Kate and Ashley, and Lindsay and the models on "America's Top Models," if you're not underweight you're overweight.

I'm 53, and when I was that age the popular girls were not skinny. Hopefully it's just a fad. Thank Goodness my grown daughters were OK. I'm so glad I don't have a 14-year old right now. Let's just hope this fad goes away, and that doctors pay more attention to teens' weight.

Oh yes, that star!! :)

I think it's a mixture of all those things. I can't imagine a 13 year old understanding what BMI is, and a 15 yeare old might want an ego boost. Some people like to pretend to have an illness to get pity, or, again, it's an ego boost. And people like me actually deal with illnesses such as bulimia and malnourishment. I'm 17.

I can remember a time when, as long as you could mostly keep up with the other kids, you were awesome. If you could make a milk bubble out of your nose, you were the coolest thing since. . . there's no hyperbole for it.

You're right that wanting attention for thinness and fat is "not cool". I come onto this site and see people who are obviously normal and feel disgusted. I'm even more disgusted when people who are underweight want to lose another 10 or 15lbs. Do these people not understand osteoporosis? Cardiac problems?

I'm 17 years old and have the bones of a 60 year old. My doctor figures I'll break my hip before I'm twenty-five. My heart muscle is enlarged from excessive exercise. I have muscle wasting and no longer have any womanly curves on my body. I am almost constantly thinking about calories and food.

Society is messed up. It started with Twiggy. Look her up. Then look up information about the "proanamia" and "CR [calorie restriction]" groups and prepare to be absolutely horrified.

yeahh now everyone wanna be thin cuz u know celebs and everything, and even some people WANT TO have an eating disorder so they can get attention on how thin they are and WANTS to have people telling them "omgg ur soo skinny im so jealouss u should eat more!" and blahblahblah. i totally agree with u. but only a small percentage people really need advices here in Y/A. while other people just want to brag or whatever. and they're in denial that they're thin or whateverr.

I just came from a weight loss camp like the ones on http://www.fitnesscamps.net/ where i ran into many women with all of these characteristics. It's unfortunate many women feel this need, and in the end, just like the many lovely ladies i met at the program i attended, if women focused more on the goodness of their personalities many of their problems would be solved. Lots of times guys don't realize how dependent they are on a woman's personality to make their choice on whether they like her or not, and they usually misdiagnose their desires by saying i like the hot blonde or something dumb like that. hope this helps.

I'm trying to lose weight too and it's sooo hard. My aunt is using a weight loss product and it's really working for her. I'm gonna try it and I recommend you try it too. Check their website at
http://www.think-fit.info , my aunt got a free trial and paid only $6.95 shipping and handling.
