You might want to keep an eye on him an have him checked out, it is pretty easy to get, I work for an airline and I know people who have got while working on the lavatories.

Blood to blood contact. Blood from the infected person would have to leave their body and enter the bloodstream of another person.

BLOOD to BLOOD is the only way Hep C is transmitted. NOT in other body fluids.

And, it would probablt be innacurate to say that Hep C can't be cured. There are treatments with fairly good success rates (depending on strain of Hep C) that seem to clear the virus from the body.

In this case,
Your son would have to have a FRESH cut on the hand that scratched his father AND enough blood would have to come into contact with that cut and travel up the blood stream. Unlikely, but possible.

The time from exposure to symptoms is usually within 8 to 12 weeks and often less than that.

If you are concerned regarding a possible risk, I would certainly recommend testing for HCV virus and HCV antibody. Early treatment is very important. Early treatment is associated with a high risk of eradication of the virus.

Hope this helps

I am a female that has Hep C. I received it from a blood transfusion after the birth of my 1st child. M y 2nd child does not have hep C,
We with hep c are getting a bum rap. I have had it for over 24 yrs and I am still living. I will die with it because it is not curable but I will not die from it. People need to be educated. Yes if I have surgery, the doctors and the nurses need to wear gloves, but I think that is something they already do isn't it? Oh and the publicity that this disease recd because Pamela Anderson has it? Is she still alive? With some precautions We can still lead productive lives.

Hepatitis C is transferred through blood, yes. But your son would have had to have an open wound that your dad's blood got into to even worry about it.
I would slow down the rough housing so no one bleeds!

Hep C has the same transmission medium as HIV/AIDS...serum or "bodily fluids" must contact each other...a scratch COULD do it but prob not
