In simple terms like twice as hard, 3 times as hard, twice as easy, don't just say a lot, because that doesn't help me at all!

I'll make it as simple as an English major can -- learn French! It's a Romance language, which means it comes from Latin, which means you'll see a lot of parallels between it and Spanish, and a lot of parallels where you can tell where English borrowed words from French.
German is from a different language family entirely.
I know, I could've stopped after the first sentence.
Have a great night!

--EDIT-- I beg to respectfully differ -- as part of my English degree, I took a rather interesting course in the history of the English language. We borrow more than any other language, and my implication was that German and French are from two entirely different language families, not that German and English are from two entirely different language families.

herfinator's is wrong. English is a Germanic Language. English's closet relatives are Dutch and German. German Vocab should be easier, but grammar is much harder. Keep at it and you will learn German too.

Learn the language you want to learn first, if you succeed with your preferred second language you will likely take up another.

French is actually pretty hard.
But I guess German is a tad harder, maybe 1/2,what with capitalizing their vowels and all that.

French is harder to pronounce correctly and I've been told that if you don't get the words right, many French people will pretend they don't understand you. I understand this practice is most prevalent in the Paris area.
