No need to be upset! If she ran away, those pups could have been from a dog that would be big enough to kill her. Actually, if they were only 3 weeks or so, and still that big that they could be counted, they most likely WOULD have killed her. You did the RIGHT thing for her, and you prevented the puppies that she would have had from taking homes from already living dogs who would die in shelters in their place.
You don't need to expect anything unusual from her. She has no comprehension of pregnancy or motherhood. They are not emotionally atached to their fetuses. She will recover fine, just like any spayed dog. You did the right thing.

Don't worry, you did the right thing. Remeber that your dog is a small breed and if the male was any bigger than her then having a litter might have killed her. In the event that a pregnancy is unplanned, you just don't know if it is safe for such a small dog to have the litter, so you really did the right thing. I don't think it's right to risk the mama's life just to bring more pups into the world because so many die in shelters anyway. You done good and there is no reason to feel bad. I wish that all pet owners were as responsible as you have been. Also, a spay during a pregnancy is not as traumatic to the dog as you would think. She will be up and at 'em in no time and be just fine. I have had to spay a few pregnant females and they do fine. It is for the best, so good job.
Give your girl kiss and move on!!

You did right in having her spayed. If the puppies had been born, what would you have done with them? It's so hard to find homes for puppies. You may have been stuck with all of them, and that would have been a very expensive undertaking. Also,if the dog was caught by a larger dog,she may have required a c-section,which would have cost you a substantial amount of money, and she may have rejected the pups, leaving you to bottle feed 7 pups! The puppies would just have fallen asleep when your dog was anesthetized, and then quickly died when the uterus was removed.Don't feel guilty, feel good that you prevented yet another litter of unwanted puppies. Also, now you won't have to ever worry about your dog coming into heat again, and she'll be happier and healthier.

First of all dont blame yourself. you didnt know she was pregnant. second of all. the vet should have preg checked her before going along with the spaying. if anything its on the vets hands about the babies. as for care. give her lots of love and affection. and be sure to not let her run or do too many strenuos activities for about a week. she needs to be easy on the stitches. she will be sore for a bit. and if the vet was any good heshe would have givin you some light pain meds for her. if you think she is in pain call and ask the vet for some doggie "tylenol" for pain. she will be fine. it will help her alot know that she is not dealing with the heat. heat is har on a female dog. some worse than others from the sound of it you did a wonderful thing for her. be proud of yourself. and dont worrie about the babies. you dont know what kind of dog could have bred her. what if it was a mastive or great dane or something she would have had a seriously hard time giving birth. think of it this way you could have saved her life by having her spayed! dont worrie be happy.

You did what was right. There is no telling what kind of dog may have bred her and she may have died if the pregnancy had continued. Min pins are runners. I know that from my experience with them. I used to own and raise them. If they ever escaped the yard, they would take off down the road. One time we had 3 that took off and were gone for about a week. Good thing they were not in heat at the time. Just give her lots of extra love and attention right now. Comfort each other.

It's okay - what if a bigger dog got her and whelping could have killed her and all of her puppies? That would have been a bit worse, but I know it doesn't take away the sadness you feel now. You did the best you could - and though maybe you would've acted differently in the situation had you known she was pregnant, what's done is done. Now just give her lots of love while she recuperates from the surgery. Take it easy. I'm sure the worst is over.

You did the best thing for her and what was safe for her. Just know you did the best at time! You did all you could do for her. Now enjoy your little girl! Those little dogs can squirt right out the door! We have a JRT who was returned to the shelter 3 times for door dashing. He's better now that he has a job (agility) and training, but he'll still squeeze out. Enjoy your doggy and give her lots of pets and kisses :)

it could have been sadder....you don't know the size of the male that got her...and her being so small, you may not have her after a few more weeks. just remember it next time and get the pet fixed sooner=)
its ok smile. =D
I'm not sure if this is what u want. But, no jumping, taking potty breaks often(females sometimes have to go more often right after). no licking of the incision. if she is still groggy don't let the water bowl sit down.

Congratulations for averting an unwanted litter.. Why be all upset, you weren't prepared for a litter and all it entails.. It's better that they aren't even born than for them to be born into a life of unknown, ending up who knows where with who knows what to look forward to.
