I need help identifying this gorgeous statue. In the store where I found it, the woman said that this is a goddess, but I'm not sure. She is sitting on a lotus holding an orb in her hands. Her eyes are not closed, but looking down. It's absolutely beautiful, but I would like to know who she is. If she is Hindu or what other religion she or he is from.
Any background information, or pictures would be extremely helpful.

I Googled the description you provided. As I looked at different images one name popped out quiet frequently (her features were also somewhat resembling your picture), so I Googled the name under images. Found an exact picture.
She is a Chinese(Buddhist) goddess by the name of Kwan Yin(as Prariecrow and others have mentioned). I have homework to do so here is a link that will hopefully lead you in the right direction.
Just scroll down after reaching "Hindu and Buddhist Statues" category
Peace:-)

Hi
That looks like Samantabhadra
She was one of the attendants to the historical Buddha, Prince Gautama
She is also known as Fugen Bosatu in Japan
The lotus is a symbol of Buddha thats what leads me in this direction. Fugen Bosatu is thought to protect those who recite the Lotus Sutra

That is definately Guan Yin. Guan Yin is the bodhisattva of compassion as venerated by East Asian Buddhists, usually as a female. She is also known as the Chinese Bodhisattva of Compassion.
In Japanese, Guanyin is pronounced Kannon (観é³) or more formally Kanzeon (観ä¸é³); the spelling Kwannon, based on a pre-modern pronunciation, is sometimes seen. In Korean, the Bodhisattva is called Gwan-eum or Gwanse-eum, In Thai, the name is called Kuan Eim (à¸à¸§à¸à¸à¸´à¸¡) or Prah Mae Kuan Eim (à¸à¸£à¸°à¹à¸¡à¹à¸à¸§à¸à¸à¸´à¸¡),and in Vietnamese, the name is Quan Ãm or Quan Thế Ãm Bá» Tát.

This is Kuan Yin, the Chinese godess of mercy. She is often depicted as sitting on a lotus. Sometimes she is holding a vase.

It reminds me of Kwan Yin. The statue of her that I bought for a friend looked younger and more delicate though. It is a beautiful statue.

Most Hindu goddesses are portrayed in sculpture and art with four arms...this one appears to be Buddhist. You're right, it is beautiful.
