...talk about how all the other religions are wrong and stupid (except Scientology), isn't it showing little respect towards other theists? Isn't it something that needs to be re-evaluated again on Yahoo!Answers?

*Cough*..disrespectful. *cough*

So yeah, talking about how religions are crap (except Scientology) is disrespectful, isn't it?

Maybe THAT'S why you get thumbs down? Generalizing that all those thumbs downs are from Christians who disagree with your beliefs, kind of irrational, isn't it?

BUT..critizing and pointing out things that make a religion hard to believe, that is certainly okay, right?

(Excuse my awful wording :P)

Well, personally I find it all to be crap. With Scientology right on the top of the heap, so to speak. I haven't seen anyone who's an atheist who has anything nice to say about Scientology here. I myself have spoken out against it repeatedly, as have Zero Cool and many others.

Since I consider myself to be mainly aethiest.... Whether or not an opinion is respectful or disrespectful is merely an opinion in itself. Who decides whether something is respectful or disrespectful? Each individual makes up their own mind on that, and everybody differs.

And what's with all this "(except Scientology)"??? If I'm going to bash religion, I'm going to bash ALL religion, INCLUDING Scientology.

Personally, I don't say that other religions are wrong or stupid in and of themselves. Everybody has to have a personal belief system, and if that system happens to include a god (or many as the case may be), then all the power to them! It makes them happy, more content in life, which makes for a happier, more peaceful society. It's the fanatics that make things worse for the world. The people who try to push their religions on others, or kill or hurt others for "sinning" against their god(s). THOSE are the people you should be worrying about.

Some people criticize or point out things that make a religion hard to believe in order to make them think about those certain points. I've had some very interesting debates with religious people about stuff like that, and it only proves to the both of us that their faith is strong, and you know what? Good for them. They won't shake their faith merely because someone points out something that they think may or may not be a flaw or inaccuracy. It also makes the person that pointed out these certain things think about them in a different light.

Some people just need to be more open minded.

I don't mean to show disrespect to religious people, but I have opinions too, and I'm curious to learn other peoples opinions on topics. How else do you learn about anything?

Oh, I'd get a thumbs down just for saying the sky is blue. If I'm going to get them anyway, I might as well be disrespectful and have some fun!

And the Scientology thing ... hilarious!

If I did that then it might be however with a couple of caveats. It would be disrespectful to the people and not particularly the religion. And it wouldn't be disrespectful to 'other' religions as you put it since that implies atheism is a religion.

Actually I give atheists thumbs down at least as much as theists. I find some of the things atheists say much more annoying than the theists. Because I expect theists to have a flawed notion of atheism. People who claim to be atheists should at least know what they're claiming to be. And yet many here sadly do not.

That scientology thing was funny.

Atheists get thumbs down for saying they are atheists in atheist polls.

Atheists wouldnt like Scientology?
If all the "secret" info posted here is correct then its a religion whose "god" is locked up and now everyone has to learn how to cure themselves and to get along without him. Seems like an atheists dream religion to me. And apparently only a very tiny percentage of them get to know that much. 99% of them arent even told that.

The rest of it is all built around good course stuff stolen from hundreds of different places. Including the benefits of baring your actions. The benefits of the catholic confession without the god part, and an added bit of psuedo-science to acknowledge that you did it right.

Then to top it all off, flat commercial rates instead of a "faithful gift of 10% of your earnings".

Seems like the closest thing to atheists getting an even break. :-)

Hi mate I'm non religious, I respect any persons decision if they had chosen a religion or belief they have chosen to follow it's there personal decision. Even if they wished to worship and believe everything that comes from there television set as 99% of all Americans do.

Would it help if I said that Scientology is also nonsense?

Scientology is not the same as science.
