Yeah, everyone likes to say how NASCAR fixes things to benefit Gordon but the Chase has hurt his career. He would have had his 5th title in 2004.
In 2005, he did not make the chase and was locked out of finishing in the top 10 in points for the 1st time since his rookie year. Without the Chase, he would have finished at least 8th.
And this year, he would be running away with the title.

Sounds like the guy on the radio Sunday night.
If Winston were still the sponsor and we didnot have this chase deal Gordon would be running for his 8th championship and taking the record from Petty thus making Gordon the king.
Well my rebuttle to this is "If a Bullfrog had wings he would not bump his butt every time he jumped"
I n all reallity Gordon could have had at least 1 more championship that being the 2004 year.

Just a quick check of Gordon's stats tells one all one needs to know. He has won 81 races and 62 times he's had the fastest car.
What's the big deal?
He's only had 19 engine failures in 504 races, 35 crashes, 1 ignition failure, 1 tranny, 1 rearend, 2 suspension failures, 2 fuel pumps and retired due to handling problems 9 times.
I prefer a driver who has 76 wins and only 22 poles. The mark of a true racer. A racer who won from the pole 7 of those 22 times as opposed to a driver who won only 17 of 62 from the pole.
A better racer would have at least 25 more wins.
With 62 Poles, his average starting position is only 9.7 with an average finish of 12.3 (ranking among the worst all time winningest drivers)! Looks like he spends most of his time backing up.
Whine about the Points system all you want but I wonder what a better driver could have done with Jeff's opportunity, chase or no chase!

Not a Gordon fan by any strech of the imagination but this chase thing has held him back from getting more. The chase sucks and always will.
I can't stand Gordon but I hate the chase.

Smart teams use different strategies for the chase decided championship so any use of the old point system is pointless. The winner is the one who wins under the current rules, not who may have won under outdated rules.

If it stayed with the Winston cup points system, he would of won it in 2004, and he'd win it this year, that means he would have six championships if it weren't for the Nextel Cup points system.

6 - 2004 and this year he would be leading 2nd place by about 493 points.
By the way Crunch - Talk about being full of both useless information and ****.

I think he may have got one or two more. You have to remember that everyone would have run different. I hate the guy, but he has the car and it fits his driving style. Not to mention the guy has got a wicked hot wife. I'd rather see anyone but gordon win but he has been on it lately.
