I have a Olympus E500 and when taking pictures at night at football games they are coming out dark. When I don't have the flash on they are blurry and when the flash is on its too dark. Any suggestions?

The flash simply isn't powerful enough to illuminate the subject. About all you can try is ISO 1600 with a fast (f2, f2.8) lens.

#1 - Move up your ISO to 1200 or 1600. This will allow your camera to shoot at faster shutterspeeds, freezing the action.
#2 - Turn off the flash! Your flash only has a reach of 30 feet or so. Use the stadium lights.
#3 - Set your meter for Action or Shutter priority, choosing the fastest possible shutterspeed. I try to stay at 1/125 to 1/250.

Here are some results of mine, using the above techniques, with a 75-300mm zoom at maximum focal length. There was some post-processing to lighten exposure, reduce noise, and resize.

The flash doesn't help at night. (not for distances anyway)
Try adjusting the ISo - the higher the iso the lighter it will be.
Also make the aperture wider (smaller number)
These 2 things should help

You can compensate with special low light lenses that have an f stop of 1.2 and use high speed film to cut down on exposure time.
You might use infrared film, but i have never used it before.
