we are in eigth grade and to be honest she is costing us games. Her platform is always going every which way and she is unwilling to slide on her kneepads. My mom honestly estimated that she ways about 240 pounds. nothing short of a big girl but this should mean she has power am i wrong? Well my question is although we do platform and diving drills everyday she is not improving. How can i help herr so we dont lose our next game.

i kno that we shouldnt be sliding! but she cant move to the ball so she has to get lower as it gets closer? savvy?

You can't "improve" her if she doesn't want your help. She may consider you one of her tormentors, which is not a good basis for cooperation and teamwork. Especially if she's right, it's hard to tell from the question whether you're the one yelling "dive, you pig" during the game.

Ask the coach if there's anything you can do to help her game, but don't take it on yourself to improve her.

Learn to read the other teams offense and where the hitters are aiming. Since you are in 8th grade, I doubt hitters are hitting out of their approach, so reading them should be easy. Truthfully doing drills "sliding on your kneepads" is useless. It only teaches you to be constantly out of position; and if you are constantly out of position you can't make plays. You really should not be diving very often during games. Learn to be in the proper position and this will eliminate the need to dive.

From the sounds of it, it looks like the team as a whole is responsible for the losses as well; not just one person.

PS: Height and girth do not necessarily mean one has power. I know people who are 6 foot 3 who can't hit at all; they have no coordination. I know people who are 5 foot 6 who hit like they're 7 feet tall.

Ok to be honest with you----you are not the one to decide if a player is good or not. thats up to the coach. second of all- stop worrying about her. she is not the one losing all of your games, its the team. remember this:
They told me there was no I in team
I am an athlete
I am an individual
I am strong
I have desires, hopes, and dreams
I have goals
All that matters is that the team reaches thier goal
They always told me there's no I in team
They were right, there is no I in team
but there is TEAM in me

yes this probably means that someone shouldnt be saying they're the best, but if your soooo worried about what someone else is doing than this poem is just like you. your acting as if she is the one who is just ruining your whole team! thats not fair to her or the rest of your teammates. i would know i've been playing since 4th grade and i play for a high school team and i have played club for 4 yrs.

1. you should not be sliding on your kneepads
2. one person does not win or lose games. its a team effort
3.if she is so bad, why does the coach play her?

Invite her to work out with you before or after practice. Or at a time when your team is not practicing. If she accepts, try to give her pointers without giving her POINTERS. Do not force it on her or she will get mad and go home. "Hey, try this" or "see if this might work" instead of "why not do it this way" or "you need to do it this way."

Help her with your heart...
Show your respect, and pump her up.

She might need more warm up, or practice more fundamentals, but you need to grow as a team, win as a team.
