I am so obsessed with keeping my teeth perfect. I had braces for 3 years so I have a reason. haha...anyways, is there any preventatives for teeth grinding? Is there anything I can think about before I go to bed that will relax me and not make me grind. I don't want awful teeth so please help!

See your dentist an have a night guard made. This way you grind that and preserve your teeth.

Many people grind their teeth at night, but the real question is...
IS IT DOING ANY HARM?
If your dentists doesn't see any wear facets (worn teeth), and you don't have any pain symptoms when you wake in the morning, then there is NO indication for treatment. The only person who seems concerned is your Mum.
If you're determined to have treatment, then please don't buy OTC splints etc. Have a properly custom-made one by a dentist or prosthetist. Full coverage of all teeth would be best. The NTI mentioned above is also OK, but only for SHORT-TERM treatment, as studies have shown that long-term use allows overgrowth of the back molars and upsets your bite pattern - not good at all.

I'm glad your so into keeping your teeth great, most people seem to put it on the back burner for some reason...as a dental assistant I would say you should talk to your dentist. Grinding is bad enough to cause teeth to become loose over time and can cause extra bone to lay down . If your tight on money go to a drug store and pick up the night guards that you heat up in water and mold to your teeth around 20.00.

HELLO JESSICA,
THE LINKS BELOW WILL PROVIDE WITH YOU WITH LOTS OF INFO ON WHAT YOU NEED TO STOP GRINDING FOREVER. GOOD LUCK
PS: the NTI is not a mouth guard at all, but it's a bruxism appliance specifically made for your mouth, and nobody else's to keep you from grinding. My patients that grind love this and after some months they grind no longer.

Ask your dentist for a night guard to prevent you from grinding your teeth & wearing them down. Grinding is bad for your jaw too.

You can wear a mouth guard at night when you're sleeping. I used to have one that was made for me by the dentist, but I wrapped it up in Kleenex one day and then accidentally threw it away. There went $300. They are really expensive. My dentist told me to get another one at Wal-Mart. They are in the sports aisle. Any major store carries them. She said to cut it so it will fit in my mouth. I haven't done it, but this is what she recommended because mouth guards are a one-time benefit, and she didn't want me to spend $300 all over again.

This is actually fairly common. It even has a scientific name. (though it escapes me at the moment)

There are many treatments. Your local pharmacy should have procucts that are worn at night inside the mouth that prevent the grinding from causing damage. Your dentist can also provide you with a custom mouth guard for this specific purpose. Dont worry. Your normal.

A night guard will help to prevent further demage to your teeth. You can get one over the counter but they do not fit very well. The night guards prescribe in a dental office is custom fitted to your bite.
