From my personal experience in researching them, i would not recommend them at all. You should go with a company that is there to help you! This company was a referral company and when i submitted my info, they sent me to a counseling agency who had super high fees. After all my research, I went with a great company--Debt Counseling Corporation. They were the only ones who went over my budget with me--showed me different ways to cut out expenses. Even referred me to a place called Upromise--(helps you save for college--and it is free--the retailers actually fund it--not you) I would check them out if i were you. I have referred them out to friends and even my mom who is now using them! It is a free call so there is nothing to lose!

Yes they are legitimate. I have seen a number of customers use their services in the past. I would recommend getting in contact with your local Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed. Keep in mind when you are reviewing that information that if the company is abiding by their terms of service then a complaint about that is not necessarily the company's fault.

For example - when someone makes a late payment and gets a late fee that the credit card company won't remove - that is not the credit company being unreasonable or providing poor service - it is a customer not wanting to pay a fee that they agree to have by using the card.

I only note that so that if you do decide to see if there are complaints against Care One that you take an unbiased view of them and try to see both sides.

I would also review other options as there are a number of reputable credit counseling services. I might also contact your creditors and see who their collections areas recommend as they will usually only provide the name of a reputable company.

Good Luck with all of this.

Don't know about CareOne but if you're looking for counseling check this site: http://www.nfcc.org/ . Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) is a non-profit company offering free counseling.

first of all you can do it all yourself. start with cleaning up your credit reports, dispute any negative information one each of the 3 reports. they have 30 days to prove it or they have to remove it. secondly contact all your creditors and see if they will budge on the interest rates. you can also come to an agreement on the amount of interest owed on each of the credit cards, barter.
don't close any of the cards, just put them all away the lines of credit are important for your credit score. pay off the smaller cards first making sure to at least make the minimum payments on the remaining cards as you pay down the smaller ones. it can take some time, just make sure that you are patient and you keep telling yourself you will get there. each of your accounts paid off is a goal you need to meet, perhaps chart it so you can see your progress every day! do not use any lines of credit, including cards, to make purchases that are not essential for living like food, paying electric bill, or rent. if it is not essential you do not need it and charging it is going to put you back to square one.
pay them off! the economy is bad the job market is terrible and owning things outright and not having any debt will make for a bright future especially during the tough times ahead !
