I think pithy means having a lot of pith, whereas banal means without originality and therefore without much meaning. So these two words kinda form a pair of antonyms, though not so sharply opposite in meaning.

What about dull vs. interesting? They perhaps can be considered an analogy to banal vs. pithy?

um... analogies? Do you mean synonyms?

Banal and pithy mean boring, not much substance, fluff.... so those words would work.

An analogy is a illustration of an idea or situations.
