I used to think that Windows Vista sucked. I was wrong. Windows Vista doesn't suck; it blows!!! Anyway, I'm a musician. I didn't take into account before buying a new HP Pavillion that my music software would cost hundreds of dollars to upgrade. So I'm downgrading to XP. I have my data backed up. Now I want to know what drivers I must back up or either download before I start. I know I need the drivers for my audio card and graphics. What other drivers are necessary?

Lol! You guys have been very helpful. Funny too! As I understand now, my next move should be to find out if there are XP drivers for this new HP model since it came with Vista? If it doesn't, would anything be compatible? Thanks guys!

i would first go to the manufacturer support site and see if they even offer xp drivers for your model ... if they do you are in good shape .. usually u need audio, video, lan, chipset/ processor .. and possibly a few others if the machine has things like a card reader or webcam .. printer .. whatever peripherals it came with will need a driver ..

XP is not a downgrade
it's an upgrade from Vista
and i reformatted my brand new laptop ( Toshiba Satellite ) for XP
part of what was the bear ( and i eventually found all the drivers ) was that
Toshiba USA has officially stopped supporting XP, but I found most of my specific driver in Toshiba of Canada and Europe, the most specific was the audio, as it was a seperate chip and not part of the i/o chipset
XP SP2 ( pro ) installed most
but a few i was on my own
go to control panel
open up device manager
make note of all hardware
specifically video ( especially if it's on board )
NIC
Sound ( will most likely be on board )
Chipset ( this sometimes will take care of video, sound and i/o functions )
RAID driver ( needed for SATA, usually part of the chipset )
Fire wire ( 1394 ) port
Finger print scanner ( if part of the computer )
and any other odd hardware
now go find the drivers for xp
sometimes you can go to HP website and look up an earlier model computer and usually they use same hardware set ups
as I have yet to find a computer that had no driver written for XP even though it has Vista installed

Dang, I have an XP disk with every driver known to man on it. Here's what you do. Go to the HP website, look for your laptop and look for the drivers for them for XP. If you can't find them you need to call HP and find out which laptop they have has XP support and whether or not the drivers will work for your laptop with XP on it. Install XP, update your drivers, check your device manager for any yellow exclaimation points, if you have any, contact HP for those drivers, when your done, have a nice day!

XP has a number of built-in drivers, so it's hard to say. Your network card is the most critical one. If you can get online, you can download other drivers as necessary.

The most important, in my opinion would be the network card because once you have that setup, you can download any other drivers you need. You may also need printer drivers, and if necessary camera drivers too.

trust me, i ve attempted to install vista on my computers MANY times, so dont try no upgrade UNLESS you're computer has a vista compatiable sticker on it. You need network, display drivers, audio. If you're graphics cards is Nvidia then go to www.nvidia.com and update from there.

You'll need to download them again. Do that first then burn them to cd or save them on a thumbdrive because you will have to repartition and reformat before you'll be able to put xp on there.
