You can not show truth in an artwork, just your truth. Some may even say that no matter what you paint it will be true as long as it is from the heart.

Just go at it. Even keep it abstract and about color. You may even say that as there is no message in that piece it can not be a lie and therefore the truth....let that sink in a bit.

Good luck.

What you want to create will always come from being in a mindset or emotional state. So you must follow the way of the artist and be in the mindset of truth. Be the incarnation of honesty in every single action and thought for at least one whole day if you can. Make written lists of things you associate with being TRUE. Journaling works too. Make this time solely for this focus. This will work for any project you will have and it will unblock you creatively. There is a book called The Artists Way that is well worth your time. However good news is there is also a website you can check out for help. Being creatively blocked is fixable for everyone. I know you were looking for an answer that would direct your project but this is one of those times for the proverb.
“Give someone a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach someone to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Have you ever felt connected with an image? Look for images on Internet or get a walk around, see places or people that you just feel identified with, then try to make an impression of it. When I'm tried to get things like that (my city is not that beautiful) I look images on flicker but that's not very original, so taking a look around is always nice.

Feeling linked to those images (as drawing arts are mostly that), will impress the truth and it will do more if you're honest about it (picturing sadness, jealous, happiness, etc)

Good luck!
