Do mainstream Christians like Catholics, Southern Baptists and Methodists for example consider Momonism to be a Christian denomination just like the others.
Please, I'm only interested in hearing from non-Mormons only.

Again, I'm only seeking opinions from Non-Mormons and not people like Achilles Tendon below. Thanks for your participation. I'm curious because some Mormons believe the Christian mainstream considers mormonism to be a denomination to the equivalent of say Catholicism. I was curious

I don't appreciate your input with a link to you church's website. I respect your faith but I'm curious as to what non-Mormon Christians felt. This is not a thread exploring the Mormon faith but rather asking for opinions.

I guess the person above wasn't paying attention. If they are not a denomination then they can't be "technically" Christian since that defies the very definition of the term denomination. There are many faiths that also believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God or God himself such as Hinduism and the Bahai faith but they are not considered Christian because their core beliefs stray too far from the mainstream of Christian doctrine. They believe that Christianity, Jesus and the Bible are a different manifestation of the All Mighty. Likewise, Mormons claim to be Christian but they are not accepted as a form of Christianity by the mainstream because of their belief in Joseph Smith strays considerably from formal Christian doctrine. Their beliefs and teachings have also evolved in the past 100 years to become more accepted into the mainstream but if you examine their original documents and teachings, it's very much in line with what people have said.
The Mormon faith is as much of a culture as it is a faith. Many mormons are highly educated and question their faith but they remain Mormons out of cultural obligation. This is why Mormons tends to marry each other or convert the other. You don't see many interracial Mormon relationships and they don't drink, smoke or partake in any stimulants.

no.
Mormons consider the Book of Mormon to be the final Word of God presented to the prophet Joseph Smith. If the Book of Mormon and the Bible contradict each other (and they do many times) they believe the book of Mormon to be truth.
But even all that aside, the one major fundimental difference is that Mormons believe that God (Heavenly Father) was once man just like they are. and if they do everything just right, all the ceremonies and tithing and endowments and stuff, some of them will get to be Gods of thier own worlds.
Christians do not believe that we can become Gods. there is only one God. Christians do not believe that God was once a normal man on another world and then achieved Godship. we believe He has always been God.
here are even more huge differencecs between the 2, but those are some of the biggest ones.
and for the record, Mormans are some of the sweetest people I have ever met. They are getting one thing right, the whole loving people thing. Christians (myself included) could learn from them in this regard.

If you mean, "Are Mormons Christian?" than the answer to that is no. The reason for this is that Mormons are by definition polytheistic. They believe in many gods who rule on many planets over other peoples.
They do not believe in the eternal deity of Jesus. They believe that he was a man that became one of many gods. Just as you can if you live the perfect Mormon life.
As the Mormon saying goes, " as man is god once was, as god is, man may become"
Christians believe (Jesus, Father, Holy Spirit) == one God. The three existed eternally together in equality and unity.
Without this teaching one cannot be Christian.
edit-- There is no reason for Mormons to claim that they are Christian. What defines Christian has been codified for about 1700 years and has never changed. The Mormons believe all existing Christians are apostate why would they claim to believe like us?
They are different and there is nothing wrong with that for this discussion. However, it seems bit intellectually dishonest to claim to be something when your belief system stands in opposition the system that you are claiming.

Mormons are not Christians even though they claim to be. They are not a denomination, but a cult.
The Mormon religion was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ and told that all churches and their creeds were an abomination. Joseph set out to impose a brand-new religion that claims to be the “only true church on earth.” The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians have no reason to believe that the Bible is not true and adequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word. And all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).

While they are technically Christian, Mormons are not considered a denomination. Their basic beliefs are far too different from the normal Lutheran, Baptist, Christian, and Methodist beliefs.

Catholicism is not a denomination but the original Church created by Christ. Denominations are those ecclesiastical groups in protest of Christ's Church. Mormonism is just another religion but it borrows from Christianity those things that they want to add to their man made religion.

It's an American trait to label people who don't share there same views or beliefs. Creating a racist wall and a illusion of difference between themselves and other peoples beliefs. I'm non religious and outside of all the Americanised labels placed on people. In my country this is know as discrimination towards a person and it is not tolerated in our free society. Any person who follows a religious belief is there very personal decision which should be respected, as you should respect your friends decisions. If a person wants to believe in spiders or earthworms of being a way to make there life a very happy one, it's fine as long as they don't harm or place there personal beliefs onto another person while behaving all rules and the laws in our countries. When we are born we are all the same there is no different ways of thinking or conflict between us. As Adults we should apply this same thinking towards each other not building invisible walls between us as human beings. In reality what has a Mormon, Catholic, Muslim or any other person who follows a different belief to your own personal beliefs ever done to harm or upset you ? I enjoy my life and accept all people regardless of there religion, beliefs, race, colour, different sexual preference, physical and mentally challenged disability's equally as human beings. Just imagine if God thought like you did, then Jesus gave his life for nothing. Ive never met a person who followed the Mormon faith to be any different as everyone else by going to work, paying the rent and bills, loving and befriending persons in there lives and minding there own business. If we all thought the same way this world would be very dull and boring.

No, they are a false doctrine. They spread lies from Hell with their book of mormon, and their beliefs are anything but Christian. They believe God was a man and the Bible clearly states otherwise. They believe Satan is Jesus' brother and that is not only not true, but blasphemous. They believe they can be gods when they die and that goes against the 1st commandment.
They believe that blacks were once cursed until it became politically incorrect and oh, they needed more money in the tins. They believe that you have to wear special undies, and I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

I am a Mormon and I just want to make it clear that Mormons are Christians and not a cult despite what others may think. Sorry to step in where I'm not wanted but I needed to make sure that was clear. Thank you and I hope you find the answers you're looking for.
