how long do muslims go on without eating food when fasting?

Muslims eat two hours before sunrise and break the fast at sunset. They don't eat nor drink any thing. Even taking a short that can give energy makes fast invalid.

I believe they fast during the day and break fast in the evening.

sunrise to sunset or something like that i believe.
it would be sweet if they could last the whole month without eating.
