Today some guy called me and asked if I wanted to make a credit card because I was pre-approved. And I told him, no thanks. Then he kept saying..."why not?" and kept making a fuss out of it. I kept replying, "It's okay, I don't want a credit right now. I have no money to pay it off anyways." And he kept going on and on and how I should get one to build credit. And I can tell he was getting more rude and forceful. So I said, "who are you to tell me what I have to go?" and he said, "well, lets' see...i've worked here for about 4 years, I have a BA in literature, blah blah." And i asked him, "aren't I entitled to my own opinion whether I want one or not?" and he's like, "NO!" and i said, "that's so disrespectful because you don't care what I think, who would hire you to work?" and he's like.."you are pathetic for not wanting to build credit" then he told me to go to the medicine cabinet to drink up pills and get a shotgun while I'm at it. SO rude with harassment. what do you guys think?

Argh. I don't like hanging up on telemarketers and I think it's rude to cuss at them. But I should've because he pushed me over the edge. Oo well, he hung up on me and I didn't get his name or company, so I can't complain or anything. All I have is his phone number. >=O I'm so mad

Are you SERIOUS??? This guy needs reporting to some authority! What was the company's name? Did you get his name? Wow! I've never heard of anything so disgraceful in my life! This tops the cake! Write a letter to your newspaper. I'm sorry but I just would not let that manner of conversation go without taking some sort of follow-up action. And good on you for declining a credit card that you know you can't make payments on. No wonder the world is reaching record levels of personal bankruptcy and debt when this sort of thing goes on.

I'm still shaking my head in disgust!

Everyone dislikes these calls and as soon as you know it's a sales pitch, just put the phone down but don't hang up. Do not talk to these people. As long as you will respond they will keep pitching their product. After a few minutes of rapid speaking, the caller will realize that you're not responding, he's talking to the air and will then hang up. You don't need to rude and this way you are not annoyed and have a little chuckle too!

My husband taught me this one, when it sounds really good ask the caller for his number and tell him you want to call him back. Nine times out of ten the caller will hang up.

This guy was waay out of line so you should direguard everything he said...the medicine cabinet and shot gun comment are actually him projecting his manic depressive mental state on you and dear, next time you have a telemarketer who gets personal (and this is verbal harassment, just so you know), just say:"I'm sorry but I am not continuing this conversation" and hang up or my favourite "Hello? Hello? Good bye."

He is pathetic for taking his anger out on a stranger, you were in your right to get mad.

Hope you feel better.

Never apply for a credit card over the phone with anybody! Chances are strong it was a scam to get your social security number. What's more, the caller's attitude and demeanor was not consistent with one working for a credit card company and following the company's rules of engagement.

Hang up on them.

I say I'm not interested and if they argue I say "I'm trying to be polite. I'm not interested" and hang up before they can argue more. Good for you for not falling for the credit, maybe he just wanted info to steal your identity, maybe he really is educated and can't find a good job and took his frustration out on you. Obviously he is not a good salesman. He probably got money if he signed you up, hence the desperation. You did good, and it's good you can talk about it. It's up to you if you want to try to get him fired or just let it go. Do the one that doesn't give you a headache.
