I've tried hats and gel, and it doesn't work.

And I'm too young to drive to a salon.

If you have really coarse, stiff hair and you cut it too short, it won't lay down, it will stick straight out like when someone is frightened on a cartoon! I have a lot of Chinese friends who have hair that does this. Just try growing it longer, and it should lay down from its own weight.

If you straighten it it might be because your top hairs are shorter but try after straightening(if you do) add some baby oil it should keep it down and add shine & softness -but not soo much 'cause then it'll look very oily or greasey...hope this helps;)
