so about, well, lets see, maybe 3 months ago i went to best buy and got an XM radio (my sister has one so know how it works). i have waited and waited trying to get my mom or my sister to do something and help me or at least find someone they know to help me but they won't budge. i am sick of waiting and i should have had this thing working a long time ago. how can i get them to help me nd make sure it gets done?

You are too ignorant to read the directions and figure it out so you are dissing your Mom and Sister. You are one spoiled, arrogant brat. Aren't you even a little bit embarrassed about posting this question? Are you totally lacking in self-esteem? You could be the poster girl for HELPLESS. Jeez, if you are really that backward, you should just sell the thing and use the money for more schooling or therapy.

It strikes me as I read this question that the problem might be one of how you are making the request. I'm trying not to hurt your feelings here, but so far the words you have used to refer to members of your family are the words "selfish" and "lazy" and you imply in your question that they are not meeting your expectations that you had for their help. If I were continually around someone who referred to me with negative adjectives and always expected me to do things for them, I might not want to spend a lot of time around that person either. As far as your radio, I agree that you can get help from the people at the store. But you might have more difficult problems in the way that you relate to the members of your family. Perhaps a professional family therapist can help you all to get along better.

As far as asking for your mom's and sister's help, try sincere words like these: "Mom, Julie, I've really tried to figure out this radio that I bought and I just can't. I could really use your help. If you have some time in the next couple of days, would you help me figure it out? I'd really appreciate it." Then negotiate a time that will work for both of you, being especially grateful and thanking the person.

Why don't you just go back to the store and have them show you how it works. Forget the aggravation, and take your own steps to get it done. I don't know how old you are but I'm sure you are very capable. Life will hand you alot of things that puzzle you, and trust me, dear one, you might as well start learning now how to do for yourself. Besides that, it will make you feel good about yourself - being so 'smart' and all!

I'm sorry...but YOU bought it....it's YOUR problem....act like a grown-up and go to your local xm retailer and ask for help. Expecting your family to jump in is kind of presumptuous of you...they are not on this earth to serve you dear.

We're only talking about a darn radio here, not life a death.

Get off your chair and do it yourself.

Is your family selfish? Or are they just tired of you demanding they make your life maintenance free?

You could ask nicely and not refer to them as selfish and lazy, that might make a difference.
