I'm thinking about becoming a pharmacist when i grow up. Is that a good career? What exactly do you have to do in that job? I know i can find out from the internet, but I'd like to know from firsthand pharmacists. I'm only a freshman in high school right now so i have time to think. If i do want to become a pharmacist, wat classes should i take now? Do i NEED to go to 6 years of schooling? Long questions i know, but pleez give me accurate anwers!!!

Great career! what other profession allows you to have the following:

1) great salary, you can get paid 75-150k per year depending on need and location

2) less time in school compared to other professions, if you plan correctly and if your high school GPA and SAT scores are high then you can graduate as fast as 5 years!

3) flexible working schedule

4) you are guranteed a job anywhere in the US because of the short supply of pharmacist

What exactly do you have to do in that job?

fill meds, consult patients, bill insurance, give advice to docs and other health professionals. I know i can find out from the internet, but I'd like to know from firsthand pharmacists. Take a mixure of classe,s not only math and science.

Do i NEED to go to 6 years of schooling?

You can. I have friends who finished their pharmd in 5 years after high school, heck I knew one who finished their pharmd just before her 21st birthday.

Long questions i know, but pleez give me accurate anwers!!!

I'm not a pharmacist but a pharm tech but I've looked into the schooling for a pharmacist in my state and its breaks down into 3 parts. a four year course of normal college with most classes in advanced science and math. Then a two year course in only pharmacy related courses like medical law, pharmacology, and others of the sort. After that it is a two year intern program. So it's 6 years of school, 2 years of internship and then you get your Doctorate of Pharmacy. As for classes you should take now; biology, chemistry, advanced algebra, any business classes your school has and some intermediate computer classes.

Yes, you need 6 years of schooling because that is the minimum. More people take 8 years than 6 years. There is one 5 year program at UOP. The 3 year, all year round, pharmacy schools, like to see a bachelors.
