My boyfriend just started tech school. He put Nellis AFB as number one on his dream sheet, he's a F-16 crew chief (yes, those planes are at Nellis) and I was wondering, if you know anything about it, what are his chances of getting there? Is nellis AFB in high demand?

Nellis AFB is on high ops tempo most of the year, war or no war. It's still the prime training base for Air Combat Command and for various NATO and allied air forces. And the F-16s will probably remain a big part of the aircraft inventory, because they are used as aggressor aircraft during exercises and training.

Even a 'Base of Preference' didn't help me. I put down all Texas bases and ended up at Seymour-Johnson, NC. Not exactly what I had in mind. Nice base, just not Texas.

It's a crap shoot like all assignments are. He's got as good a chance as anyone else. He can want and dream but it still depends on the needs of the military. If nothing else, he might be able to do an assignment swap. Don't know if the AF still has those, however, I've been retired a long time.

yeah its called a dream sheet, because your just going to dream about going there. Seriously the needs of the AF come first before the airmen's wants. We put down bases on the east coast only and got stuck in boring Oklahoma. LOL

Like most responders have said, it's called a dream sheet for a reason. Don't get me wrong there is a chance he may get that base considering his job, but that chance is small. I put all southern states and currently in Montana.

The best way for him to get the base he puts first on his dream sheet is to be Great at what he does, Get Great test scores and work his bum off to prove that he is worth his weight He should volunteer for things and hopefully have a great Sargent that can write perfect EPR's...... and have a bit of luck... Another way to get your first choice is to volunteer for a year long tour to Korea... when your done with the tour they *Try* to give you your first choice..I'm not saying that with 100% tournout but they do try to... Good luck...
