Just wondering, do christians/catholics believe that the followers of every other religion, budhist, muslim are in league with the devil and are going to hell when they die or

Are most christians open to the idea that if a person lives a good life and follows the 10 comandments even though he didnt formaly know about them and is of another religion will go to heaven still, but in the back of their mind are secretly happy that they choose the right side just in case?

Here is a frequent misconception about Christianity. It is this idea that salvation is "earned," i.e. by good acts. But salvation is not "earned," it is a pure gift from God.

Now if you were to ask random people on the street, "Do you think you will go to heaven?" Most of them "Yes."
Then you ask them: "Why?" Almost all of them respond: "Because I am a good person."

Although well-intentioned, it is certainly not Christian. The real idea is that all of us are sinners -- and Christ came down to pay the debt for the sins of humanity, even for all future generations. This act of self-sacrifice shows the love that God holds for us. That is to say, that no sin is too great to vitiate God's love for humanity. In fact, even all of our sins combined cannot overtake God's love for us.

Catholics believe that those who aren't in communion with the Church are condemned, but "the Church" is defined broader than just those who are Catholics. It may include Orthodox, also Protestants who do not even realize they are a part of "The Church."

Many Protestants, however, do not believe any Catholics are saved. They believe Catholics worship statues, humans (saints) and this is tantamount to idolotry.

Another difference. Protestants believe in salvation by faith alone. Catholics believe it requires both faith and works. This difference probably doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. This is because one who was filled with faith would exhibit the works, axiomatically.

But salvation through good works alone is your question.
I suppose it lends itself to this question. Is there a relationship with God there? Or is it empty?

If you ask me. I would say the best thing for you to do is pray on it. The closer you move to God, the more humanistic all these differences seem. Everything is for a purpose, in the end. Sometimes you have to just trust that God will take you to where you need to be.

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

Insha'Allah, although this will not apply to all Christian sects, the Roman Catholic church, following the promlagation of the documnets of the Second Vatican Council specifically realting to the ecumenical movement within the Chruch expressly stated that God and God alone will decide who has lived a moral life and is deemed worthy of the gift of eternal life during the Final Judgment.
In this teaching, it is expressed that any individual who has lived a "good and moral" life has the potential for salvation.
Such is also taught in the Holy Qur'an (i.e., that Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, and He alone is both able to and has the right to judge who is to receive paradise and who is to be thrown into the "lakes of fire".) IN the Holy Qur'an, Muslims are taught that many of the "ahl al kitab" or "people of the book" will be deemed as righteous while some who went through the motions of practicing Islam but did so without the spirit of the same will not be found so. Reasoning tells us that the same would apply to every person.
Let us all defer our personal judgment to that of God, whether we address Him as YHWH, Trintiy Fahter/Son/Holy Spirit or Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala.

Ma'a salaam.

P.S., Catholicism is another one of the many and varied sects of "Christianity" and not a separate entity from the same. IN fact, Roman Catholicism was the first "state recognized" Christian denomination prior to the advent of any of the protestant sects.

A Christian, by definition, is one who follows Christ and His teachings. He said that there was only one way to get into Heaven. Not by our works, but by the work that He did. As far as following God's Laws, we are all guilty of breaking His laws whether we were aware of it or not. If I go to another country and unknowingly break a law, I will still be found guilty before the judge regardless. How much more just is a perfect God than an earthly judge? So, as we will all stand before God, the Judge, one day. Guilty. Justice must be satisfied. Either we can pay the fine ourselves (in Hell) or we can accept the fine that Jesus paid on our behalf.

Oh man, I'm going to Hell. Even though, I'm going to be teaching your children sometime in the next couple of years. Special Education is my dual major. I've never hurt anyone, nor do I plan to. I don't sleep around. I'm planning on volunteering for Make a Wish, and making little Smilecards to send out to children who have siblings diagnosed with cancer. I don't do drugs, or even drink very often. But, because I don't believe in Jesus Christ, I should be condemned to an eternity of torture.
Ok, fair enough.

The Word syas that Jesus is the only way and that we must believe on Him to be raised up. The good and evil of this world are really an unfortunate distraction...and they are only temporal.

the truth is that spiritually God defines all who know Christ as His chiildren and all who do not as enemies. We don't grasp this because of our temporal definition of an enemy. Most Christians cannot stomach the idea of calling a kind person an "enemy" simply because they do not know God.

It is however a spirtual truth that we need to all grasp and cling to so that we may use this queasiness not as a reason to argue with God or water His Word down but to inspire us to preach the Gospel with more love and zeal.

Eternity is a long time....

For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another. Romans 2:14, 15

the law of course being such as not killing others, not stealing, basicly whats on every heart even if they were born where there is no god preached, its basic human nature

also to fill in the blanks my christian friends are leaving, we belive jesus IS the only to get to heaven IF you know him, and belive him, IF you never had heard of him or do not accept him but belive what you belive with all your heart then yes, heaven is yours thats what the early church fathers taught
can anyone explain whats with the thumbs down? just wandering, what did i say to offend? the truth? does the truth offend?

If a person is good, never doing anything wrong, then of course they go to heaven.

But of course "There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins." Ec 7:20 and Jesus said, "No one is good— except God alone."

But if a "good" person did exist - yes they would go to heaven.

Christians believe that you can only get to Heaven through Jesus Christ. You can do good works all of your life, but if you don't profess a belief that Jesus died for your sins, you won't get there.

zorkan has the Catholic teaching. The important point here is that if you know Christ and His Church, you are not to reject Him. We are to be obedient to His teachings.
