NO.....Long guns are legal to transport on Domestic Flights, but not by Minors.. You must be 21 years of age and it must be registered by the airline you are flying. It must also be in a locked case that is FAA Approved for use in a baggage hold of the plane. If you were to try and check your firearm, it would be immediately confiscated, and you would be charged as a minor with possession of an ILLEGAL weapon. You wouldn't make your flight from BWI to Massachusetts, because you would be detained...In Maryland you have to be 18 to have possession of a rifle or shotgun.21 for a handgun.Sorry

Call the airline/lines if your using different ones for your there and back trip. And find out what their requirements are don't talk to the desk clerk get a supervisor and then ask him/her who they answer to and speak to that person. You will also have to check with the local state and county legislature to find out what the local ordinance laws are. And contrary to popular belief guns are NOT just sent through the mail. The US postal service will confiscate the weapon (they will not ship a firearm, but they will a knife or bow) and turn it over to the ATF who will then track it back to you and you'll be in a lot of trouble. Only certain companies will ship weapons and they have to be sent from/to a FFL licensed dealer in which the serial number is run (if for some reason your gun is reported stolen then it gets sent to the local PD). You show up and they run a background check on you then you have to pay a fee to get your gun back. Your best bet is to just find out if your friend has any guns you can use. If the gun is checked through baggage expect more problems the baggage guys see a bag or box with a gun in it and they tend to beat it to hell. Not all airlines are like that, though.

isn't Massachusetts one of the 'confiscate states'? Can't remember if it's them or Conneticut that confiscates any firearm that is transported in their state by non-residence. Which would be the problem traveling from the airport to your friends home.

That's a tough one. The only people that can tell you that are the airline. Give the 'port a call and they'll be able to tell you better than anyone on here could.
